Job Summary
Uses radioactive materials to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses or injuries; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of their assigned clinical area. Participates in the training of new employees and students as necessary. Union: Yes
Job Duties
+ Calibrates and assays isotope doses; prepares radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals.
+ Explains procedures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients; positions patients for procedures; provides protection to patients and personnel in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
+ Calibrates equipment and performs camera and computer quality control; operates selected equipment to perform radionuclide imaging including scanning, organ blood flow studies, organ function studies and PET and CT studies; processes images.
+ Performs semi-in-vitro studies in wet lab.
+ Takes call and performs emergent studies when necessary.
+ Utilizes radiology information system and electronic records systems to maintain information required for accurate patient records.
+ Maintains record of receipt, use, storage, and disposal of isotopes.
+ Performs routine and emergency laboratory radiation surveys and wipe tests; surveys contaminated material; assists in containment and cleanup of radiation spills.
+ Performs quality control tests of equipment; immediately notifies the Team Leader or designee of irregularities.
+ Notifies the Team Leader or appropriate maintenance personnel of equipment malfunctions according to procedure.
+ Shares responsibility for ordering supplies; orders isotopes as needed.
+ Acts as a Nuclear Medicine liaison; provides support to physicians as requested; refers problems to the Team Leader.
+ Maintains a positive interpersonal relationship with patients, physicians, and employees.
+ Performs processing and formatting of computer studies as requested by Team Leader.
+ Performs scheduling of patients as requested by Team Leader.
+ Performance of nuclear medicine exams and assisting with procedures and therapies require access and handling of non-controlled medications and radioactive pharmaceuticals.
