About the Job
Current licensure as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required. (Please submit if MA license is pending)
BLS, Current registration as R.T.(N)(ARRT) or CNMTMonday-Friday (weekdays, will work 4 days between M-F), 4 days a week (shift varies), 32 hours, shifts assigned 7:00am-3:30pm and/or 8:00am-4:30pm (needs flexibility to work both as needed), Call rotates weekly between Monday-Sunday: weekends 8:00am-11:00pm and weekdays 4:30pm-11:00pm.
Education/Experience: Associate or Bachelor's degree in science or certificate degree in Nuclear Medicine from an accredited school or MA DPH/NMTCB approved education required. o Minimum of one year experience in Nuclear Medicine preferred.
Job Summary: Reporting to the Section Leader of Nuclear Medicine, provides direct care to patients undergoing nuclear medicine procedures.
Job Functions:
1. Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials and adjunctive medications, calculates doses, and administers doses, under direction of physician and under the direct supervision of an Authorized User in diagnostic and therapeutic studies.
2. Performs all nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrates knowledge of anatomy, physiology and metabolism under investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection and administration of radiopharmaceuticals.
3. Utilizes a variety of equipment used in Nuclear Medicine and follows prescribed procedures.
4. Calibrates equipment as required.
5. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ.
6. Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.
7. Follows hospital radiation safety procedures and policies in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
8. Participates in departmental inspections conducted by various licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies; and participating in scheduling patient examinations.
9. Complies with department policies regarding comprehensive patient care, radiation protection, quality assurance and technique, in organ imaging.
10. Supports the Section Leader with strategic development of Nuclear Medicine services to meet the changing needs of our customers and ensure continued growth of services.
11. Assists in development and initiation of procedures for efficient operation of the unit.
12. Works in compliance with all Joint Commission, state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.
13. Promotes effective intradepartmental and extra departmental relationships.
14. Complies with departmental and hospital policy and procedures.
15. Ensures compliance with patient quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups ranging from neonate to geriatric.
16. Keeps abreast of latest trends in Nuclear Medicine.
17. Practices basic patient education skills.
18. Accurately documents patient medical information.
19. Follows patient identification protocol.
20. Assists in the evaluation of new equipment, as needed.
21. Interacts professionally with patients, vendors, co-workers and medical staff.
22. Acts as a preceptor for new employees.
23. Trains students, interns, and externs, as needed.
24. Promotes Service Excellence.
25. Maintains standards of performance.
