While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, ensures all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; maintains required safety, security and operational training; assures procedural and regulatory compliance; and makes safety, security and quality an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- Performs a variety of tasks in controlling and monitoring of chemicals and/or hazardous waste within the company facility or manufacturing production organization in accordance with federal, state and local regulations such as EPA Clean Water Act and DOT Toxic Substances Control Act, in addition to compliance surveillance activities.
- Monitors chemicals, related equipment, and waste system indicators; makes chemical and equipment adjustments to ensure proper system functioning and chemical solution balance; removes and disposes of waste chemicals, solvents, and acids; inspects hazardous waste production and storage units; and maintains operational logs.
- Cleans up chemical spills.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Must have a good understanding of chemicals (acids, bases, oxidizers, flammables, reducers, water-reactives) in a variety of forms (liquids, solids, gases, sludges, slurries) and related incompatibilities to prevent undesirable chemical reactions.
- Work is performed in occasional hazardous working conditions and requires the use of specialized safety equipment and apparatuses.
Minimum Qualifications:
- CH or RH packaging operator.
- HLD-II certification.
- Q clearance desired
- Thorough understanding of operating site organizational structure, policy and procedures.
- Thorough understanding of Technical Safety Requirements
- Adhere to operating site and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to facility operations.
- Can work under minimal oversight of daily work.
- Requires attention to detail, personal accountability/ownership for assigned tasks, ability to produce legible and accurate operational records, ability to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities, and an aptitude for operations.
- Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job
Education and Experience Required:
High School diploma; however, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
The career level of the position will be determined by the years of relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities; after a candidate has been chosen.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements (Medium Work):
Work is within a highly regulated environment associated with DOE nuclear facilities and/or package and transportation activities. Conditions require regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. Regular exposure to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level may be loud due to equipment or machinery used.
Medium Work Category - The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, to reach with hands and arms, and to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
