School Social Worker - Extended School Year 2023-2024
Location: Batavia, IL
Job Duties:
- Individual Counseling: Provide one-on-one counseling sessions with students to address social, emotional, and behavioral concerns that impact their academic performance.
- Group Counseling: Facilitate group counseling sessions focusing on topics such as anger management, social skills, and conflict resolution.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to crises within the school community, offering immediate support and resources to students, staff, and families as needed.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to develop and implement interventions and support plans for students with social and emotional needs.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the needs and rights of students, particularly those from marginalized or underserved populations, both within the school system and in the broader community.
- Family Support: Provide support and resources to families to address issues that impact their child's academic and social functioning, including conducting home visits when necessary.
- Resource Coordination: Connect students and families with community resources such as mental health services, housing assistance, and financial support.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, assessments, and interventions in compliance with school policies and legal requirements.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay current with best practices in school social work and related fields.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive social work services to students enrolled in the Extended School Year program.
- Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to support student success and well-being.
- Conduct assessments to identify students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans to address identified needs.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as necessary.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student concerns and develop appropriate interventions.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and other stakeholders..
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with state and federal laws.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Worker endorsement.
- Previous experience working as a school social worker preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based interventions.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced educational environment, independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity and cultural competence in working with diverse student populations.
