Mott Haven Academy Charter School (Haven Academy) seeks a 1st grade Assistant Teacher who is dedicated to progressive teaching practices and providing high quality educational opportunities to underserved communities. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with lead teacher to lead and assist in full class lessons and small group instruction using a rigorous curriculum
- Develop and maintain, with professional coaching, expertise in the subject area you will teach
- Co-Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of common core learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade exit outcomes
- Along with lead teacher, communicate with parents on an ongoing basis to provide information, learn more about students, and share student successes
- Encourage students' positive interactions with other students and adults
- Value and promote peaceful conflict resolution and creative and authentic problem solving; Uphold the school's System of Logical Consequences; Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management
- Keep an organized workspace
- Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students with families, support staff, specialty teachers, and leaders
- Stay current with regard to education literature
- Participate in a variety of staff development programs, including a yearly individualized professional development plan, two-week summer PD, and individual PD sessions
- Participate in developing and meeting the goals of an individualized professional development plan
- Uphold and promote the school's mission and vision
- Perform other duties as needed to support the ongoing development of Haven Academy (e.g. Lunch and/or recess duty, tutoring, etc)
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing or already has Bachelor's/Associate's degree (preferably in education), with an outstanding record of academic achievement and leadership
- High moral character
- Flexibility and openness to feedback
- Interest in working in a collaborative environment.
