JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our accounting department for a summer internship program. This position is ideal for a rising senior pursuing a four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. The intern will gain practical experience in various accounting functions and contribute to the accuracy and efficiency of our financial reporting processes.
This is a fulltime internship (40 hours per week) for a period of 9 weeks during the summer.
- Timing: The 2025 summer internship will begin Monday, June 9th and conclude on Friday, August 8th.
- Hours: Interns should be able to commit to NORC’s 8:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CDT business hours.
- Compensation: The hourly rate of pay is $22.
- Location: The 2025 Internship will take place virtually. You will be sent a NORC laptop.
Deadline: Applications will be accepted through Friday, January 3rd at 5:00 p.m. CT for the 2025 Summer Internship program. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Help reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
- Participate in the month end close process
- Assist in the preparation of journal entries and account analyses
- Support the internal audit team in documenting and testing internal controls
- Help maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Contribute to the preparation of tax related documents and filings

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Rising senior status in a four-year degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.3
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
- Familiarity with data analysis tools
- Understanding of internal control concepts
- Interest in pursuing CPA certification
