About the Job
Responsibilities:
- Personal Care: Assist with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Mobility Assistance: Provide support with mobility, including transferring from bed to wheelchair or vice versa, walking, and exercising.
- Medication Management: Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and dosage instructions.
- Meal Preparation: Plan and prepare nutritious meals according to dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Housekeeping: Perform light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and tidying up living spaces.
- Companionship: Engage in meaningful conversations, accompany on outings, and participate in recreational activities.
- Transportation: Assist with transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other errands as needed.
- Monitoring Health: Keep track of any changes in health conditions and report concerns to appropriate medical professionals or family members.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of care provided, including medication administration, vital signs, and daily activities.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently, including administering first aid and contacting emergency services if necessary.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in caregiving, preferably in a similar live-in role, is often required.
- Certification: Certification in CPR and first aid is typically preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to assist with lifting, bending, and other physical tasks associated with caregiving.
- Compassion: Empathy and patience in providing care and support to individuals with varying needs.
- Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, family members, and healthcare professionals.
- Reliability: Dependability and trustworthiness to fulfill responsibilities consistently.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing schedules and needs of the client.
- Criminal Background Check: Often required to pass a criminal background check and provide references.
- Driver's License: A valid driver's license may be required for caregivers who need to provide transportation.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and cultures, especially if working with clients from different ethnic or religious backgrounds.
