About the Job
Essential Responsibilities
- Reviews requests for prototypes with respect to feasibility and manufacturability including
- evaluation of material choices mainly for nonlinear optical materials,
- phase matching conditions
- process tolerances and test requirements.
- Identifies technical risks based on thorough understanding of intended applications including various types of laser platforms and takes action to mitigate such risks.
- Hands-on, capable of building and testing prototype components and assemblies.
- Works along the manufacturing engineering team on characterization of crystal materials and assembly components.
- Creates documentation for designs as needed including technical drawings.
- Coordinates activities with planning, R&D, and manufacturing teams to optimize time from receipt of initial request to release of products to production.
- Ensures that products shipped meet specifications and quality requirements.
- Organizes and leads phase gate reviews and pro-actively manages lifecycle status of parts.
- Maintains reporting systems to identify opportunities for improved time to market; develops and implements processes and methods accordingly.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelors in engineering, physics or material science required
- 3+ years experience in related industry such as photonics, lasers, and nonlinear optics principles and material/light interaction
- Experience with Laser Systems, Optics, Project Management, giving technical presentations
- Good Working Knowledge of manufacturing methods
- Strong communication skills
- Capable of coordinating and executing on multiple projects / tasks
- Experience/Interest in customer care and managing customer requests
- Good understanding of analytical equipment for optical/physical material characterization
- Ability to work independently and to interface with large teams, working across departmental boundaries
- Experience with Solidworks a plus
