Job description:
Position Summary: The New Product Development/Engineering Technician (“Technician”) will be a member of the Product Engineering Department reporting to the Prototype-NPI Manager. They will be responsible for supporting all phases of new product prototyping and integration into the manufacturing line, including but not limited to procurement and acquisition and storage of parts, generation of Engineering Work Orders, co-ordination, participation in and tracking of prototype builds and the compilation and distribution of information garnered throughout this process.
As part of the Engineering Team, this individual will also support needed testing at the Woodstock Engineering labs with the potential for occasional travel to outside labs.
The Technician’s Scope of Actions will include:

Translate requests originating from the Engineering team into actionable tasks on the manufacturing floor.

Interfacing with operations personnel daily for tacking of EO Work Orders.

Performing a variety of assembly or test operations as needed in an accurate and organized manner.

Performance testing NPI prototypes IAW formal and informal testing procedures. This may include developing testing procedures.

Procuring materials (raw stock, subcomponents, subassemblies, etc.) and coordinating build activity in all manufacturing areas with both standard and prototype builds.

Producing meaningful design update suggestions to promote ease of assembly and accuracy of testing prior to production runs of new configurations of Rotron product

Tracking and financially accounting for acquisitions of needed materials to support NPI prototypes and testing. This will involve daily reports/updates of individual part status.

Perform planning and buying actions necessary to support tracking multiple programs’ hardware procurement efforts. This includes documenting progress via executive-level summaries for easy reference across multiple departments.

Coordination of program hardware deliverables to include procurement and scheduling use of tooling, fixturing, test equipment and other resources needed on a per-program basis
Responsibilities:
-
Manage Engineering Work Order requests from initiation to completion, acting as the liaison between the Integrated Project Team and Production resources keeping accurate and organized records.

Work closely with Program Managers and Integrated Project Team providing accurate status reports and managing expectations.

Work from written Engineering Request to source parts and materials needed to execute Engineering Work Orders.

Create and maintain sufficient Quality records to support NPI prototyping efforts
-
Conduct design assurance testing as directed by formal and informal testing standards/procedures

Identify best practices for new configuration assembly and collaborate with MED when generating instructions for assembly

Support the Design Engineering department as needed to accomplish Special Testing such as Air flow and other laboratory and qualification testing.

Analyze product design for efficiencies that can be gained in normal production runs (fewer man-hours, less scrap, etc.)

Provide maintenance and administrative oversight (calibration records, etc.) to equipment and tools under the cognizance of the Technician

Implement LEAN practices (to include 5S) in all Technician spaces

Mechanical and electrical assembly of prototype subcomponents and final assemblies
Required Skills and Abilities:

Ability to keep neat and accurate records.

Demonstrated ability prioritize, co-ordinate and track project/build status with Operations and Engineering staff and report effectively on a daily basis.

Demonstrated willingness to learn and perform electrical and mechanical assembly and testing skills as well as ability to use associated equipment.

Project oriented thinking, complete with both technical and schedule awareness with outstanding tactical execution – must possess a sense of urgency.

Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word
Education and Experience:
-
A Two-year Technical degree or equivalent experience, or a high school diploma with 5‑7 years of work experience in similar roles
-
More than casual knowledge of Rotron’s Product lines and Documentation / Quality System.

Due to ITAR restrictions, US citizenship or US Lawful Permanent Resident status is required.
Pluses:

Ability to support limited, occasional Outside Laboratory testing that may necessitate travel with possible overnight or multiday trips.
