Summary
As an integral member of the Human Resources team, the Human Resource Generalist works collaboratively with the broader HR Team and business leaders assisting with the development and deployment of business-driven HR strategies designed to attract, manage, develop, motivate and retain key people while creating a high-performance, sustainable organization capable of achieving the business objectives and action plans. The HR Generalist will be responsible for applying business knowledge and human resources expertise and provide a wide range of HR support and advice. The successful candidate will play a key role in the success of the organization by offering guidance on recruitment, terminations, performance management, employee relations and HR best practices while facilitating a positive relationship between employees and business leaders.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide first-line HR support to business (benefits, employee leaves, payroll issues, work authorization, etc.)
- Support recruiting initiatives across the business including partnering with the Talent Acquisition team for end-to-end recruitment activities for all hourly positions
- Support a full suite of HR initiatives across organization (employee engagement, talent assessment and succession planning, employee performance review process, talent development)
- Work with first-line management to manage and resolve employee relations and performance concerns
- Identify ways to improve HR policies and procedures
- Responsible for HR system and personnel record maintenance, reporting, and analytics
- Responsible for all employee record keeping and HR compliance (personnel files, unemployment filings,
- Provide high-quality advice and service to management on daily employee relations and performance management issues
- Complete special projects to support broader HR and people-related initiatives
General Tasks
- Maintain strict compliance with the quality, environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality, environmental management and/or occupational health and safety officer.
- Implementation of the instructions of the quality / environmental management representative and the occupational safety specialist.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Industrial and Labor Relations, a relevant field is required.
- College Graduate with 0-2 years professional experience working within a human resources function
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while also able to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal across a wide audience
- Proven ability to deal with conflict and diffuse difficult situations
- Demonstrate discretion, able to work with sensitive and confidential materials, and demonstrate good judgment
- Ability to understand, interpret, communicate, and align policies and practices to the Novanta Values and Code of Ethics
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Prior experience with an HRIS system (i.e. Workday, SuccessFactors, etc.) preferred
- Candidates must be open to relocation to other Novanta US sites in the future.
Travel Requirements
- Occasionally for recruiting and some support for smaller locations for special situations.
Physical Requirements
- Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
- Ability to use vison to read computer screen and read printed materials.
