Works within the Information Technology Division. Under the direct supervision of the Information Technology Division Director, this position will be the chief administrator of all PD server systems, radio systems (vehicle and portable), computer aided dispatch, as well as specialized command vehicles. Oversees all video recording systems presently in use and any future video recording systems. Supervises staff that have been trained in server administration and active directory account management. Since the police department delivers services to the community on a 24/7/365 basis these systems need to be available with little to no down time. Additional server systems are located on specialized response vehicles. These are front line response units and need to be available to respond at a moment's notice. Duties in the aforementioned systems require ensuring all system operating updates, security patches, and application version updates are performed with minimal interruption of day-to-day operations as it pertains to computing and communications (radio) systems. Develops business plans for server consolidation by determining the most cost-effective solutions to deliver the same computing capabilities while reducing the number of systems. Tracks the life cycle of servers and prepares for their replacement. Another important task is to ensure all system warranties are up to date and extend the warranties where necessary. Ensures that all radio systems, vehicles, and portables are updated according to manufacturer and Department of Information Technology requirements.
