About the Job
We are seeking an experienced Network Technician to assist with a comprehensive network refresh project. This contract position is for a duration of 6 months and will involve the installation, configuration, testing, and documentation of new network equipment. The ideal candidate has expertise in handling modern networking hardware, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring minimal disruption during the refresh process.
Key Responsibilities
Installation and Deployment
- Install and configure network equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Physically set up and replace outdated networking hardware.
- Ensure proper cable management and adherence to networking standards.
Configuration and Testing
- Configure VLANs, port settings, QoS, and other network protocols to meet organizational requirements.
- Conduct thorough testing of newly installed equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform network validation to confirm proper connectivity and throughput.
Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve issues arising during or after the network refresh.
- Provide Level 1 and Level 2 support for network-related issues.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, IP schema, and device inventories.
- Prepare status updates and progress reports for the project manager or stakeholders.
Compliance and Security
- Ensure all installations and configurations comply with company security policies and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with the IT security team to apply proper firewall rules and access controls.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with IT leadership, project managers, and other technicians to ensure smooth execution of the refresh plan.
- Provide training or handovers to internal teams once the refresh is complete.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).
- 3 years of experience in network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking equipment.
- Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, etc.).
- Experience with wireless networking and WAN/LAN environments.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools like Wireshark, SolarWinds, or PRTG.
- Certifications such as CCNA, Network, or equivalent (preferred).
