Job Description Network Engineer-Architect: Wireless Focused – Meraki
Contract to Hire - $60-80+/hr depending on experience (open to W2 or 1099)
2-3 days on-site in McLean, VA and client site in Washington, DC
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Implementation:
* Design and configure complete network solutions using Cisco Meraki products, including wireless LANs, and switches.
* Implement network solutions in corporate environments, ensuring seamless connectivity and integration with existing systems.
* Conduct site surveys and create wireless heat maps to ensure optimal placement of access points and maximum coverage.
* Optimize wireless channels and power settings to enhance network performance and reduce interference.
* Plan and deploy network configurations that support eduroam, facilitating secure, global Wi-Fi access for the academic community.
2. Network Management and Monitoring:
* Utilize the Meraki dashboard to monitor, configure, and maintain wireless, switching, security, and SD-WAN solutions.
* Monitor network performance to ensure high availability and reliability, and adjust configurations as needed to optimize performance.
* Use tools and software to generate wireless heat maps for ongoing optimization of wireless coverage and to troubleshoot areas of poor connectivity.
3. Troubleshooting and Support:
* Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex network issues across Meraki hardware and software, including challenges related to wireless coverage.
* Act as a point of escalation for network-related issues, offering technical support and guidance to other team members.
4. Security and Compliance:
* Implement and manage security policies and practices across the Meraki infrastructure to safeguard data and comply with regulatory requirements.
* Ensure the implementation and management of the latest security protocols, including WPA3 and 802.1X for robust wireless authentication, enhancing network access control and security.
5. Project Management and Collaboration:
* Lead wireless and wired network projects from conception to deployment, ensuring they meet all technical requirements and are delivered on time.
* Collaborate with IT teams and business stakeholders to identify network needs and provide solutions that support organizational goals.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
* Maintain detailed documentation of the network setup, configurations, and procedures for troubleshooting and compliance.
* Prepare reports on network status, project progress, and incident resolutions for management and team members.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Proficiency with Cisco Meraki products and the Meraki dashboard.
* Solid understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS, 802.1X).
* Experience with network management and monitoring tools, including those used for creating and analyzing wireless heat maps.
* Expertise in implementing and managing advanced wireless security protocols, including WPA3 and 802.1X.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
* Certifications such as Cisco Meraki Network Associate (CMNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) are advantageous.
