Responsible for supporting all day-to-day physical plant operations required of the USA Health systems’ hospitals and clinical networks. Responsible for operations, maintenance, and performance of the wired and wireless voice, data, and fiber transport networks. The responsibility will be to work in the field within our health system hospitals, clinics and other facilities supporting and overseeing the installation of our wireless access points, routers, switches, and other hardware. The Network Field Services Technician needs to be able to climb ladders to replace ceiling mounted WIFI access points and may be required to repair/replace CAT6 terminations on existing cabling and/or install extended demark cabling from telco wallboard to network rack. This person will work with the Network Field Services Engineer and third-party company installing the networking cables and fiber for our network distribution plants. The Network Field Technician we be responsible for supporting the security and efficiency of the data and voice communications network for USA University Hospital, USA Children's & Women's Hospital, Physicians Group, Health Care Authority (HCA), Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI) and USA Providence. Primary duties are to install, document, monitor and support the network infrastructure responsible for networking services related to security, network, applications, and networking operations required to meet the requirements of the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and supporting all of USA Health’s hospital and clinical data and voice networking infrastructure.
- Responsible for the installation and management of all networking hardware to include Cisco Ethernet switches, wireless LAN controllers, fiber and network distribution plants needed for USA Health.
- Maintain network distribution connectivity between USA Health sites by routinely monitoring internal and external networks to ensure peak performance.
- Provide support for data and voice interconnectivity between USA Health’s hospitals and clinics.
- Install and maintenance of the network cabling and fiber infrastructure with the health systems contracted vendor and internet service provider.
- Knowledge and understanding of LAN/WAN network topology and have experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and tracing network connections.
- Work cooperatively with the USA Health & University Networking, Telecommunications and Technical Services groups to provide functional services between the health system and the university.
- Work with networking and telecommunications team to monitor all networking gear and infrastructure equipment required to maintain, service, operate and improve network accessibility and survivability for the USA Health system network.
- Perform all maintenance and service impacting work the engineer in coordination with the Manager, Network Engineering & Manager, Telecommunications
- Must be able to carry a cell phone and respond promptly to occasional requests for assistance (24/7).
- Must have the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required. There will be some occasional travel is required to support the network hardware at all of USA Health’s hospitals and clinics.
- Create and maintain the voice and data network diagrams that outline the data flow documentation of USA Health’s network.
- Participates in work related improvement activities.

- Related duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Science/Engineering or related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama. Associates degree in Computer Information Science/Engineering or related field from an accredited institution accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years of experience in the networking or telecommunications field installing, managing and provide maintenance of large-scale data or voice networks, or a high school diploma and five years of experience in the networking or telecommunications field installing, managing and provide maintenance of large-scale data or voice networks. Directly related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Certification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) methodology preferred.
