Network Engineer | 1-year contract
Scope of Services
The consultant will engage in highly technical tasks, showcasing their expertise at various levels of complexity. They will exercise independent initiative and judgment, focusing on upgrading network infrastructure across multiple owned sites. This role involves addressing day-to-day network and telecommunication challenges, requiring critical thinking and problem-solving skills, all while adhering to industry-standard best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Network Infrastructure and Telecommunication team leader to upgrade networks and implement wireless solutions (Meraki & Cisco), including support and troubleshooting.
- Work with Cisco Catalyst, Nexus switches, and Cisco VoIP devices.
- Implement protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, SSH, TCP/IP, UDP, SSL, HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, and various routing protocols.
- Deploy security products like firewalls, IPSec, RADIUS, PKI, IKE, Certificates, and more.
- Gather data for VoIP deployment at various buildings.
- Design LANs with legacy equipment integration and necessary upgrades.
- Manage deployment processes, including equipment inventory, installation, and documentation.
- Provide design recommendations based on CISCO best practices.
- Plan projects for implementation and maintenance windows.
- Travel across five boroughs for data gathering, network deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Utilize network management, monitoring, and troubleshooting tools (e.g., sniffer, syslog, NetFlow, TCPDUMP, Wireshark).
- Handle day-to-day configuration and management of Cisco Firepower firewalls, Client, Stealthwatch, and DNAC.
- Operate using Cisco Command Line Interface, Windows, OSX, and Linux.
- Assist in troubleshooting beyond normal work hours as needed.
- Document networks, systems, MOPs, and operational materials.
- Conduct network and security assessments to optimize performance and design.
- Support and lead efforts in designing, testing, evaluating, and implementing new architectures and technologies.
Mandatory Skills/Experience
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in IT network engineering or technician roles.
- Strong understanding of complex routing and switching environments.
- Extensive experience with Meraki, Firewalls, DNA, and Client.
- Ability to work independently is crucial.
- Physical work expected for installation and cabling.
- Experience in implementing network patches.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Client-facing role requiring strong customer support and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience with Cisco WLAN and Client-specific technologies.
- Understanding of Meraki Wi-Fi deployment, VPN certificates, and wireless routers.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes, including Incident Management, Change Management, and Problem Management.
- Active CCNA certification is preferred.
