Network Engineer

Location: Greater Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg Area (Candidates must reside in this area)
Schedule/Work Arrangement: Hybrid (on-site and remote)
Work Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Monday-Friday)
Job Duration: The position will extend into the next fiscal year after the completion of required clearance processes (PATCH and DOC).
Residency Requirements: Candidates must reside within a commutable distance from Harrisburg, PA, and hold a valid U.S. Green Card or U.S. citizenship.
Screening Requirements: All candidates must provide official identification displaying their current home address and photograph as part of the application process. Identity verification will be conducted through a video call prior to consideration for the position.

Summary
This role is within the Edge Networking team under the Bureau of Infrastructure and Operations at the Pennsylvania Office of Administration (OA). The Network Engineer will focus on providing technical support, designing, maintaining, and integrating local and wide area network infrastructure. The position offers significant exposure to testing, vetting new systems, identifying problem areas, and rolling out new network projects.

Summary
This role is within the Edge Networking team under the Bureau of Infrastructure and Operations at the Pennsylvania Office of Administration (OA). The Network Engineer will focus on providing technical support, designing, maintaining, and integrating local and wide area network infrastructure. The position offers significant exposure to testing, vetting new systems, identifying problem areas, and rolling out new network projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and manage network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls, Silver Peak SD-WAN appliances, wireless and cellular devices).
- Utilize industry-standard tools for monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex network issues.
- Participate in the design and execution of LAN/WAN architecture, including bandwidth analysis, capacity planning, and creating schematic engineering diagrams.
- Execute planned network upgrades and deployments while supporting change management processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve edge network incidents and document actions in Service Now.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations as part of hardware refresh cycles.
- Create and maintain Visio diagrams to document network configurations.
- Ensure network security compliance per OA requirements.
- Provide tier-2 support for widespread events and incidents, working with various teams and business partners.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats with employees, vendors, and partners.
- Stay updated with new network trends and technologies.
- CCNA and CCNP certifications (or demonstrable equivalent hands-on experience).
- 4-5 years of experience with network switching.
- 3-4 years of experience with network routing.
- 2+ years of experience with SD-WAN solutions is beneficial.
- Proficiency in routing protocols, network monitoring tools, and automation.
Additional Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain CJIS clearances.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work from step ladders when necessary.
- Valid PA driver's license required for operating motor vehicles.
