Scope of Position
The Network Engineer position encompasses the comprehensive management and oversight of the data center and access layer networks built on a mix of Arista and Cisco hardware, leveraging tools up to and including Cloud Vision for enhanced visibility and control over on-premises environments. This role involves automating daily tasks and maintenance procedures to increase efficiency, utilizing configuration management tools to maintain network consistency, and overseeing configuration drift to ensure network integrity. Additionally, the Network Engineer is responsible for integrating network tools with monitoring and alerting systems to proactively manage network performance and security. The scope of this role extends to evaluating and implementing infrastructure enhancements, adhering to ITIL practices, and contributing to strategic technology planning and systems projects within the Network Services of Information Technology.
Job Responsibilities
Technical Support in Network Infrastructure:
- Assist in the implementation and optimization of technology solutions for network infrastructure built on Cisco and Arista hardware.
- Support the design, maintenance, and enhancement of the network systems environment, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Network Management:
- Provide support in managing Cisco and Arista solutions across the Medical Center networks, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Assist in leveraging tools, up to and including, Arista's Cloud Vision platform, for improved network visibility and control in both on-premises and cloud-hosted environments.
Network System Operations:
- Support the operation and maintenance of network and monitoring systems to maintain stability, performance, and security.
- Provide assistance in addressing network-related issues and ensuring the smooth functioning of data center network operations.
Network Planning and Implementation Assistance:
- Contribute to the analysis and planning for implementing and scaling of network infrastructure.
- Assist in the integration and management of network environments, with a focus on optimizing performance and ensuring scalability.
Upgrade and Maintenance Support:
- Aid in upgrading network systems hardware, software, and support systems in line with ITIL/ITSM practices to ensure the continuous improvement of the network infrastructure.
Collaborative Project Involvement:
- Participate in projects involving network systems integration with business and IT solutions.
- Support in evaluating and researching network systems products and workflows to enhance the organization's network capabilities.
Technical Assistance and Support:
- Provide technical support and insights in network systems.
- Assist in aligning network system requirements with IT and business objectives to support strategic initiatives.
- Participate in the on-call rotation supporting the data center network, enterprise networks, and all other network services across the Medical Center, which are operational on a 24x7 basis, to ensure continuous availability and performance
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of networking experience.
