The Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM)/ Brenner Children s Hospital is seeking a dynamic and energetic leader as Head of the Section of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Candidates must have a record of proven health care leadership, excellence in research, clinical care, education, and/or administrative accomplishments. Candidates must be board certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, and have or be eligible for a North Carolina medical license.
Priorities for the Section Head of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine include enhancing research programs, developing innovative patient care programs, collaborating with community physicians, mentoring and career development of faculty and fellows in the section. The following qualities are preferred:
- Academic stature as an established clinical investigator
- Record of extramural grant funding and scholarly productivity
- Excellence in mentoring
- Transparency and a collaborative management style
- Business skills including budgeting and resource management
The Department of Pediatrics is a collegial department with 95 dedicated, top-notch faculty and roughly $8 million in extramural funding. The Section is part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist s Brenner Children s Hospital that manages infants in the Sisel Newborn Intensive Care Unit, a 79-bed state-of-the-art center opened in 2019. The Section has active research focused on neonatal follow-up, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, ELGANS, clinical trials, Precision Medicine, and fetal programming amongst others. The Level IV NICU serves as the referral center for the more than 28,000 neonates born in Northwest North Carolina s Perinatal Region II with admissions exceeding 950 annually.
