JOB SUMMARY:
The Ultrasound Technologist I is fully competent toperform all diagnostic procedures for the
Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following is asummary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, bothmajor and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions maychange from time to time.
1. Fullycompetent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of theRadiology Department
2. Fullycompetent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section.
3. Assessesthe patient, reviews the orders/ chart as appropriate confirming the reason forexam. Ensures pertinent patient symptomsand clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present ifneeded.
4. Preparesthe patient for the procedure, answers any patients questions and effectivelycommunicates with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/orquestions regarding exam protocol.
5. Responsiblefor the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time inthe Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by theradiologist.
6. Providesa safe environment to include, but not limited to, infection controlguidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals.
7. Monitorsthe timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established departmentgoals, striving for continuous quality improvement. Performs QA of exams (correct order,accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending toradiologist for interpretation.
8. Actively participates in the clinicaleducation of student sonographers.
9. Actively participates in departmentsPerformance Improvement Projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The followingqualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary toperform the essential functions of this job:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
Graduate of an AMA approvedSonography program. ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic MedicalSonographer(RDMS) preferred. Newgraduates may apply that are registered or registry eligible. New graduates that are registry eligible mustbe registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of theirhire date. Maintain current AHA CPR certification through Cape Fear ValleyTraining and Development department.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
1 year minimalexperienced required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Demonstrates technicalskills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonography. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Verbaland written skills required. Demonstrates compassionate patient care. Demonstrates knowledge ofgrowth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for allage groups. Provides care based on thepatients developmental needs. Experienced in the delivery of effective patient care and interactseffectively with patients of all ages.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able tocommunicate orally. Must have dexterityand visual acuity. Must have mobility toassume awkward positions. Must havemobility to respond to emergency situations. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to bend and have the ability tolift 100lbs/carry objects up to 50 lbs.. Position may involve skin, eye, ormucous membrane contact with blood or other potentially infectiousmaterial.
