Purpose of Role
The National Internal Quality Engineer is responsible for improving Rehrig Pacific Company’s quality performance, quality system and quality engineering capabilities. They work across and within our Manufacturing and Service locations to: drive consistent, systematic analysis and quality improvement; improve quality engineering processes and technology usage; implement and improve compliance to quality system standards and address customer quality needs.
Areas of Accountability
Advances the quality engineering capabilities of Rehrig Pacific Company:
- Expands Rehrig’s use of advanced statistical methods and formal problem-solving techniques (8D, 5-Why, Shanin etc.)
- Identifies, implements and standardizes technologies and automation that improve quality while reducing cost in areas of: Product inspection and measurement; process monitoring and control; data management and reporting.
- Identifies opportunities to expand closed loop process controls. Expands usage and compliance to process control plans.
- Partners with the National Quality Team, Plant Quality and NPD personnel to develop and implement improved measurement, testing and quality control methods.
Leads Rehrig Pacific Company's customer quality issue resolution process and system:
- Partners closely with Sales and Customer Experience teams to coordinate multi-site customer complaint resolution, ensuring efficiency and minimum impact(s) on local resources.
- Evaluates customer related RCCA work for closure approval based on internal requirements and effectiveness of preventing recurrence.
- Measures RCCA effectiveness; coordinates performance improvement and standardization across and within sites.
- Trains users on system use; drives necessary upgrades with IT.
Continuously improves the Rehrig quality system and metrics (KPI's):
- Analyzes and reports trends in quality metrics to operations and senior leadership; Partners with site leadership and national teams to implement improvement plans that address negative trends or risks.
- Identifies and implements quality system processes required to meet Rehrig Pacific Company and customer quality objectives. Ensures standardized adoption across sites.
- Develops and leads an audit program to measure and improve quality standards compliance, effectiveness and efficiency.
- Partners closely with plant Quality managers to ensure compliance to external product quality standards (Food Safety, FM, ANSI).
- Assesses Quality skills and capabilities; coordinates or provides training to grow and develop capabilities of the Quality team.
Provides quality support to Sales and Customer Experience teams:
- Manages an efficient system to fulfil customer requests for compliance documentation (letters of continuing guarantee, material claims, certifications etc.).
- With support from local sites, leads and manages customer audits and RFP requests.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- B.S. degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or similar.
- 5+ years quality engineering experience in a manufacturing operation that includes direct experience managing the output quality of manufacturing processes. Including but not limited to: measuring product, performing capability studies, developing inspection plans, training front line teams on quality control procedures, and defect reduction activity - not simply documentation and record keeping.
- Direct experience leading critical quality issue resolution with customers: Containment, RCCA and standardization across sites.
- Defining and implementing Quality management system standards.
- Detailed knowledge and application of statistical process control methodologies.
- Working knowledge of form tolerances and associated measurement methods. Set up or operating experience with 3D measurement technology strongly preferred (CMM, scanning etc.).
- Performing and approving root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. Experience with formal types: 8D, 5-Why, A3 etc. strongly preferred.
- Performing process auditing, documenting gaps and facilitating corrective actions to improve compliance. Audits to include process control plans, corrective actions, procedures/standards or similar.
- Strong technical writing skills. Experience and ability to document detailed procedures concisely and simply.
- Ability to collaborate closely with Learning & Development teams to create training material that supports standards implementation.
- Willingness and ability to travel ~30%. (1-2 trips per month, 2-3 days each)
