Seeking a full-time Medium Voltage / High Voltage Electrician for MSAB Air Base in Jordan.
Your Impact
- Reports to Power Plant Supervisor
- Must have experience in MV/HV electrical distribution systems with voltages of 4160, 11 & 13Kv.
- Perform hands-on routine inspection, preventative maintenance, condition monitoring, troubleshoots, corrective and emergency repairs on power plant associated MV distribution systems and apparatus. Diagnose problems and then repair/replace defective parts as required.
- Perform hands on electrical maintenance and repair of power production electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary systems of power generation facilities operating at 5-85Mw and greater total output with diesel driven prime movers.
- Perform hands on inspections, operates, and maintains the paralleling and main medium voltage switchgear systems, with local and remote monitor and metering capabilities, SCADA and PLC control systems, alarm response to ensure maximum system reliability.
- Inspects operational activities for safety precautions and instructs employees against occupational hazards. Responsible for employee conduct and compliance with all safety policies, regulations, and compliance with all OSHA and NFPA requirements
- Assists with maintaining technical library and record-keeping which documents all procedures necessary to accomplish assigned responsibility.
- Responsible for facility custodianship of work area, hand, power, and shop tools
- Responsible for department communications activities – attend/participate in department meetings Identify department risk/liability and develop work plans to manage ongoing risks as it relates to the operation of the power generation facilities, power delivery and power quality. Be able to articulate concerns and forward to Supervisor.
- Responds to emergency calls regarding power generation/distribution equipment breakdowns and MV electrical distribution system outages. Ability to interpret and apply required corrective action with data readings and results of equipment checks to identify equipment or process problems and take appropriate responses to correct or resolve problems.
- Attend daily Safety meetings/stand downs IAW with VGS (Versar Global Solutions) and Prime contractor policies.
- Attend VGS (Versar Global Solutions) EHS (Electrical Health & Safety) training and establish a status of CP (Competent Person), AP (Authorized Person) or SAP (Senior Authorized Person)
- Perform routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on electric power control equipment, high voltage switchgear, substations, transformers, circuit breakers, distribution networks, distribution lines, or electric-generating equipment in accordance with the NEC and local codes.
- Promote and maintain safety following established safe work practices and procedures.
- Assist in the location and rectification of faults on the underground medium voltage networks during power interruptions.
- Work on power cables, transformers, insulators, and control equipment such as switches, circuit breakers, and panels. This includes collecting transformer oil samples that are tested for contamination as well as cleaning up contaminated sites.
- Install and connect transformers and make hot taps and splices.
- Assist with installation of underground cable, conduit, and ductwork. Install transformers; string power wires through ducts and manholes; make MV electrical connections; and splice cables.
- Perform rigging on high voltage motors, transformers, and compressors.
- Inform the Supervisor of the location of a failure, possible cause, and repairs required on the MV Distribution Network
- Ensure correct testing and isolation procedures are followed before working on de-energized electrical networks or associated systems.
- Execute the company’s policy and procedure for proper and efficient operation of the power plants and distribution network.
- In communication with the Journeyman/Master Electrician and acts as the lead MV power plant electrician and/or team lead
- Assemble, repair, modify, replace, and install electrical quick-change assembly components such as electrical cables and wiring harnesses associated with engine and transmission components and test the completed products.
- Use a variety of test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, multimeters, growlers, meggers, power analyzers, and specialized test sets to test for shorts, continuity, and defective wiring and connections.
- Use standard hand tools and micrometers to check for extensive wear of bushings, bearings, and gears. Assist on assignments involving equipment and components of greater complexity than those described above by performing discrete tasks such as routine disassembling, repairing, and reassembling the simpler components and then bench testing them.
- Disassemble, repair, modify, assemble, and test a variety of electrical equipment such as AC/DC motors (single, split, and three-phase), generators, starters, voltage regulators, servo mechanisms, alternators, transformers, actuators, power control panels, control sticks, instrument panels, or inverters.
- Check fields, armatures, wiring, commutators, and other electrical parts for continuity, voltage drop, ground shorts, opens, and overheating.
- Check and repair gears and clutches when these and other similar mechanical items are part of the accessory being serviced or repaired.
- Check shafts for clearance, balance, and warpage; they check the condition of bearings, noise filter capacitors, switches, rectifiers, variable resistors, diodes, relays, and governors according to work order requirements.
- Repair or replace items such as brushes, seals, bearings, gears, leads, armatures, and control parts.
- Follow all VGS standard policies and practices.
- As directed by the Supervisor or Task Order Manager.

- Must have computer skills and be able to operate a variety of computer programs.

- Must maintain a valid driver’s license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date
- Must maintain a valid passport from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date. Passport must have a minimum of 6 blank pages prior to OCONUS mobilization.
- Must satisfy the AFCENT Force Health Protection Guidance medical requirements for AFCENT prior to OCONUS mobilization, must be able to maintain a Medically Qualified (MQ) rating on an annual basis.
- Must meet the host nation COVID-19 entry requirements; COVID-19 vaccination(s), fully inoculated and Booster.
- Must be CAC eligible and able to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations.
- Must hold a security clearance and/or be eligible to obtain one.

Additional Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years as licensed electrician with HV/MV electrical experience/IEEE credentials
- Provide Certificates and/or willingness to attend formal training.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED plus related technical training
- Must provide copies of training certificates in the Fundamentals of Electrical Safety based on NFPA 70E standards. This training must have been completed one year prior to the start of the contract.
- Must possess current training and be able to demonstrate general knowledge of industrial safety and environmental regulations, including compliance with OSHA and NFPA70E requirements, personal protective equipment usage and lock out tag out procedures for electrical, mechanical, and fluid systems and controls.
- Experience using all types of hand and power tools, shop equipment such as hydraulic presses, drill presses, hydraulic, electric, or pneumatic lifting devices, etc.
- Experience using all types of measuring devices such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, dial bore gauges, etc.
- Experience using all types of MV testing devices such as multimeters, power analyzers, insulation resistance tester, DLRO, three phase TTR, relay tester, ground resistance tester, cable locator, HiPot, etc.
- Experienced in working with other technical staff.
- Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is required, high level is preferred.
- Experience with Synchronized Diesel Power Generators
- Experience training teams from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- When workload/mission/staffing levels dictate, assist with daily Power Plant operations to include bringing online/offline gensets, synchronizing/paralleling gensets, taking hourly generator readings, fueling in power plant environment, electrical distribution installation/maintenance, facility maintenance, housekeeping, etc.
- Ensure required documentation/reporting is submitted in a timely manner.
- Assist with request/retrieve service/maintenance/repair parts/components from Prime Contractor Consolidated Material Warehouse and transport to powerplant service/repair location.
- Assist Prime contractor Procurement/Materials staff with acquiring repair parts/consumables by suppling MV equipment model data, part numbers, descriptions and technical oversight when required.
- Willingness to attend formal OEM specific genset, electrical distribution equipment and/or controls training.
- Ensure less experienced members of power plant operation/electrical distribution team are performing services/minor repairs to high quality standards and IAW manufactures recommendations.
- Ensure electrical distribution staff are performing service/maintenance/repair duties IAW US Military, Prime Contractor, Host Nation and VGS (Versar Global Solutions) Environmental/Hazmat policies and procedures.
- Operate/perform within the behavioral guidelines/policies/procedures put forth by USG, US Military Command, Host Nation, Prime Contractor and VGS
- Use and maintain various hand and power tools of the trade.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in inspecting, commissioning, operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing multi-diesel driven generator power generation facilities and MV distribution systems with an output capacity of 5-85Mw or greater.
- A thorough knowledge of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems, to include but not limited to their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components-- Standard Diesel generators, Controls genset synchronizing and paralleling, genset communication/monitoring systems such as PULSE SCADA, Switchgear, protection relays, substations, cables, transformers, RMUs, substations, etc.
- Ability to read, comprehend/understand and apply information contained in manufacturer equipment manuals, facility document including drawings and specification, operation and maintenance manuals, standard operating and emergency response procedures, material safety data sheets, etc.
- Able to show experience with inspection, testing, and repair components of electrical systems to include generators, transformers, substations, circuit breakers, transfer switches, switch gear, PLC controls, and fuel monitoring and delivery systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply required corrective action with data readings and results of equipment checks to identify equipment or process problems and take appropriate responses to correct or resolve problems.
- Specific understanding and knowledge of power generation equipment startup and shut down and basic equipment maintenance procedures as they relate to the power generation equipment and/or auxiliary operator.
- Ability to follow troubleshooting procedures and use deductive reasoning to isolate the fault; and provide step by step feedback on all steps taking.
- Able to take specific verbal and written directions and carryout directions from the supervisor Decisions made are covered by specific, well-established work methods and procedures.
- Experience in providing prime power O&M Services to clients.
- Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards for electrical and mechanical trades, related safety practices, and skill required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generator systems and equipment.
- Basic knowledge and trained with current certification of First Aid & CPR
- Must rescue an injured victim from an electrical conductor.
- Must know Lockout/Tagout Procedures
- Experience working in international work environments with expatriate or US military.
- Experience in the Installation, Commissioning, Operation, and Maintenance of MV/LV Distribution Networks and associated Hardware and Switchgear
- Experience in working on a team and training others.
- Familiarity with electrical components and knowledge of wiring (where and how controls are installed and operated)
- Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
- Must have knowledge of use and proper application of Personal Protective Equipment
- Experience in installing and maintaining medium voltage electrical distribution network.
- Experience in fault finding and rectifying in Underground Distribution Networks
- Proactive nature and strong interpersonal skills in collaborating, communicating, and working with (1) Other senior managers and staff (to include Site management team), (2) Local and International subcontractors; (3) US Military representatives; and (4) Local officials as required.
- Duties will involve work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to arid climatic conditions including extreme temperatures in the summer months.
- Must be able to work overhead with arms raised for extended periods.
