Multi-Site Environment Program Manager - Northlake, IL
As the Multi-Site Environmental Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with environmental and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations, managing environmental programs, and implementing sustainable practices within the organization. This position will primarily support Environmental programs and compliance processes for Sun Chemical’s Northlake, Kankakee, and St. Charles sites. The position will require on-site presence at each of these locations. This position will also provide assistance to our Menasha facility.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and adapt corporate applicable HSE policies and procedures to meet site-specific requirements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitor and assess environmental risks and develop strategies to mitigate and minimize them.
- Conduct regular environmental inspections to identify areas of improvement and address non-compliance issues.
- Prepare and participate in scheduled Corporate SunCare Audits. Provide follow-up action-item completion and tracking.
- Ensure that each plant is aligned with ISO 14001 standards.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, Corporate EHS and manage external consultants to obtain necessary permits and approvals.
- Lead any announced environmental regulatory agency inspections. Lead or provide support for any unannounced environmental regulatory agency inspections depending on whether present at the particular site during the inspection. Prepare responses for any findings from announced and unannounced agency inspections.
- Provide guidance and training to employees on environmental practices, regulations, and procedures.
- Develop and implement environmental Key Performance Indicators (eKPIs) for each site and ensure effectiveness. The eKPIs shall be in alignment with overall corporate KPIs established.
- Manage the company's waste management program, including waste reduction, recycling, proper disposal and agency reporting.
- Manage environmental sustainability data in Sun Chemical’s information database.
- Manage air quality regulation requirements, including, but not limited to, permit renewals, permit modifications, emissions baseline profiles, permit reporting, equipment monitoring/ inspections, and keeping equipment inventory current.
- Provide management of change requirements and impacts to site environmental compliance. Interact with project stakeholders, such as, engineering, operations, controllers, technology, corporate EHS, etc…
- Prepare and submit required other environmental reports and documentation to regulatory agencies, as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineer, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience working in environmental management, preferably in the specialty chemical manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations with an emphasis on air quality, other areas include, but not limited to, water quality, hazardous waste management, and pollution prevention. Experience with DHS compliance is preferred, but not required.
- Strong understanding of sustainable practices and ability to implement them within the organization.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
- Certification or training in environmental management systems (ISO 14001) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, travel and make sound decisions.
- Hybrid work 20%, travel 20% to Kankakee, St. Charles, Menasha
