Job Description:
Position Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Section Supervisor serves as a resource for technologists performing complex specimen processing and testing to assist physicians in the diagnosis of patients.
Responsible for the daily specimen testing/reporting activities and processes performed by Medical Technologists and Technicians.
Maintains policies and procedures, quality control, equipment maintenance and proficiency testing practices throughout areas of responsibility assigned by Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager.
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, ensures area(s) of responsibility are maintained in accreditation with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Reviews CAP checklist to maintain section compliance and is a CAP inspector for other facilities
Actively assists with education of the staff.
Ensures competency of staff in area of responsibility.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
National registration by ASCP/HEW as an MT or equivalent.
Four (4) years previous hospital experience preferred.
