MS SQL Server Database Administrator

Position Overview:
The MS SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the installation, configuration, management, and monitoring of SQL Server databases. This role involves working with large SQL Server farms and performing migrations to Microsoft Azure environments. The DBA will ensure the high availability and performance of database systems, contribute to strategic architecture planning, and support ongoing automation of routine tasks.
 
Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Administration & Maintenance
   • Install, configure, and monitor MS SQL Server databases (2016+).
   • Perform upgrades and migrations, including on-premises to Azure.
   • Implement and manage Always-On Clustering Services.
2. Backup & Recovery
   • Utilize Commvault Backup for database backup and restore operations.
   • Manage native SQL Server Management Studio backup and restore tasks.
3. Automation & Optimization
   • Develop automation scripts using Jenkins, Ansible, or PowerShell.
   • Enhance workflows and streamline manual database tasks.
4. Azure SQL Expertise
   • Build, migrate, and manage Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure SQL Databases, and Azure SQL VMs.
   • Work with related Azure technologies for database management.
5. Collaboration & Support
   • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
   • Troubleshoot issues, provide performance tuning, and deliver database solutions.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years in systems development, database analysis, or programming.
  • 5+ years managing large SQL Server farms (300+ servers).
  • Proven experience in automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, Ansible).
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL services.

• Certifications:
  • Azure Fundamentals or higher.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or higher.
  • Microsoft Professional Certifications.
  • Google Cloud Professional Certifications.
• Additional Experience:
  • 10+ years in SQL Server administration.
  • Expertise in database migration strategies and tools.
  • Advanced skills in SQL Server clustering and high availability setups.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Expertise in SQL Server clustering, backup strategies, and cloud migration.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation tools.

 
Work Environment:
Onsite role with occasional after-hours work to minimize service disruptions.
