Provide support for a large footprint of Microsoft SQL Server instances including AlwaysOn availability groups and failover clustering configurations.
Support SQL Server 2016/2019 on Physical and VMware Hypervisor.
Responsible for database backup and recovery methods, database access security and integrity, physical data storage design and database storage administration.
Involved in disaster recovery planning. Participate in several Business Continuity DR tests per year in coordination with the Business Continuity team. Document DR processes.
Understand SOC1/SOC2/Internal Audit/Yearly Audit requirements for compliance reporting.
Participate in 24x7 follow the sun on-call rotation, shared between 3 regions (US, Ireland and India)
Provide Production support including Saturday Deployment support.
Support DB and OS Patching initiatives on a monthly/quarterly basis. Remediate MSSQL vulnerabilities identified by the Vulnerability Mitigation Team.
Participate in continuous process improvement, focussing on reduction of manual tasks via automation.
Implements and maintains configuration of each database instance to baseline standard access controls.
Make recommendations for database system architecture per Microsoft SQL Server best practice.
Deploy and manage updates to scheduled jobs within UC4 Scheduler and SQL Server Agent.
Proactively monitor SQL Server maintenance tasks, troubleshoot failed processes, and address issues promptly.
Troubleshoot and investigate application performance issues as they relate to the database. Provide appropriate guidance and solutions.
Tune T-SQL queries and provide guidance to developers on best practice.
Manage and coordinate database migrations and database software and hardware upgrades.
Create documentation and training for routine database administration activities, as well as train server operations employees on them
Support standard DBA security processes such as password rotation, TDE, SSL and DB Auditing
Attend Standup/Planning/Issues review/Change Control and Customer facing meetings as representative of the team.
Experience with Onprem to Cloud DB Migration on Compute Engine and Managed Services.
SQL Server DBA Requirements & Skills
SQL Server AlwaysOn
Working knowledge of Windows 2019/2012 r2
Windows Clustering
Knowledge of Powershell/Pester scripting
Extensive knowledge of SQL Server diagnostic tools: Extended events/ Profiler etc
Background with a Performance Analytical tool such as Quest Foglight.
Experience with Chef/Chocolatey packaging
General knowledge of Splunk
Knowledge of GITOPS, CI/CD processes
Prior experience with cloud services (GCP, AWS, Microsoft Azure)
Good knowledge of Transparent Database Encryption, Backup Compression
Experience with Capacity Planning / Right Sizing (CPU/Memory/Disk) for VMs and Physical Servers.
General knowledge of Networking concepts.
Experienced with documentation of Technical Processes and procedures
