Reports to Director, Radiology. Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to create diagnostic images. Communicates the steps of the MRI procedure to the patient and assumes care for needs of patients, both physical and psychologically.

MRI Technical:
- Obtains patient history to ensure patient safety.
- Selects technical factors to optimize image quality.
- Evaluates images for technical quality and make adjustments as necessary.
- Maintains knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
- Performs appropriate protocol based on diagnosis.
- Adjusts the protocol based on exam ordered and any pathology seen.
- Clean and maintain equipment.
- Reports any malfunctions of equipment to supervisor.
Department Function:
- Performs protocol exam with reading radiologist.
- Explains the steps of the MRI procedure to the patient.
- Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients.
- Administers safety precautions related to magnetic field.
- Maintains safety in the magnetic field at all times.
- Starts IV for contrast media injection.
- Safely administers contrast based on ACR recommendations.
- Participates in on-call coverage on a rotational basis.
- Orients and trains new MRI staff.
- Works with Job Shadow, students, etc. to familiarize them with MRI.
- Keeps room adequately stocked with linens and supplies.
Patient Data / Image Movement:
- Verifies all written orders prior to beginning procedure.
- Enters accurate exam information into Radiology Information System.
- Obtains patient history so that proper procedure may be performed.
- Completes all steps to ensure that images are on the PACS and ready to read.
- Enters accurate exam codes so proper charging is accomplished.
- Scans all pertinent documents into patient file in PACS.
- Films images as requested and ensures quality.
- Performs post-processing functions (MIP, Medis, Cadstream, etc.)
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate�s Degree (or equivalent certificate) in Radiography or MRI. Must maintain current CPR certification. MRI registered by ARRT is required within 1 year of hire to maintain position. A minimum of 1 to 2 years of Radiography/CT experience or an MRI specific degree is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires registry with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a Radiographer or MRI.
- Familiarity with MRI equipment.
- Familiarity with human anatomy and cross-sectional anatomy.
- Limited nursing skills and sterile techniques.
Working Conditions
- Works in a hospital office and patient care environment.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged period so time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of position.
