PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To perform MRI scans and safety screenings according to departmental policy and guidelines.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs MRI and other imaging procedures as defined by departmental protocols.
• Performs MRI safety screenings for patients and researches implanted devices prior to scanning.
• Performs other diagnostic imaging as skills permit.
• Assist with the coordination of workflow and patient care activities.
• Completes transmission of optimum quality images to PACS system, performs QC on scans.
• Performs clerical duties when necessary and/or needed.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Consistently uses two patient identifiers.
• Obtain clinical history regarding reason for examination and obtains appropriate consent.
• Demonstrates complete knowledge and proficiency in the use of MR Scanner Units, Radiology supported computer systems and CD burners.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
• Completes mandatory education.
• Provides superior customer service to patients, family members and all members of the healthcare team.
• Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
• Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
• Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to [neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients], including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and provide the care needed.
• Administers all contrast media under physician's supervision.
• Demonstrates ability to obtain IV access.
• Ability to assess patient for adverse reactions and/or changes in patient status.
• Demonstrates complete knowledge and proficiency in the use of contrast media injectors.
• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform i-STAT testing and accurate calculation of GFR following established departmental policies and procedures.
• Participates in collecting data for Performance Improvement surveys.
• Verifies insurance pre-authorization as defined by departmental protocols prior to scanning patient.
• Assists in the learning process of students and new staff in department procedures, quality control, and MRI safety.
• Demonstrates problem solving skills, acts as liaison between MRI department, clinicians, nursing, and ancillary departments.
• Performs other related duties as required.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
• Frequent contact with department staff, radiologists, nursing, physicians, physician office staff, Allied Health Students, patients and their families and other ancillary department's staff.
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Completion of ARRT, CNMT, and/or RDMS registry required.
• Successful completion of the MRI Registry exam is a job requirement within 2 years of hire.
• State licensure required.
• Completion of formal and/or on the job training on cross sectional anatomy.
• Associate’s degree in allied health preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
• Ability to work independently and respond to a stressful situation.
• Ability to function effectively as part of a small cohesive team is critical.
• Ability and willingness to complete educational requirements.
• Ability to interact with all levels of personnel and patients.
• Ability to physically respond to a crisis situation.
• Ability to learn new technology.
• Skill in written and verbal communications.
• Knowledge of departmental policies and guidelines.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• ARRT, CNMT, and/or RDMS registry as well as MRI certification completed within 2 years of hire.
• Board registered in appropriate modalities.
• State licensure required
• Completion of IV training course.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Some lifting and patient assistance is required. Walking, standing, sitting, pushing, and pulling are required.
• Exposure to high magnetic field strength.
• Ability to assist patients to and from stretcher, wheelchair, and exam table.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work in high volume area.
• Exposure to high magnetic field strength and radio frequencies.
• Exposure to potential high noise levels.
• Exposure to viruses, blood borne pathogens, other pathogens, sharps, poor lighting, chemicals, and electrical hazards.
• Exposure to seriously ill patients.
• Minimum 1 year experience, unless stated otherwise
• Experience must be within the last 2 years RTO- 10 days or less
• No gaps of 30 days or more in work history
• Skills Checklist dated no more than a year ago

- PT is a minimum of 24 hours per week, same shift 3p-11p
- On call is a rotation with 10 techs. On call every 10th weekday (call hours 11p-7p); On call every 9th weekend (on call hours 4p-8am) Weekends are Sat/Sun
- Must have MRI Cert and IV certification
- Prefer Cardiac exp
- Must have Siemens and Epic experience
- Parking – Attached garage, contractor will pay for it daily (Manager didn’t know the cost)
- Requested time off – minimum working 1 winter holiday, candidates with excessive RTO will be declined
- Will consider Temp to perm
