Job Description
PURPOSE OFROLE
We areseekinga highly skilled and experienced Motor Control Embedded Software Design Engineer to join the Aerospace team and take a lead role in developing functionally safe motor control software for the aviation industry. In this hands-on role, you willbe responsible fordesigning, implementing, and testing software for power electronics solutions that meet stringent safety requirements for aerospace applications while adhering to industry standards such as DO-178C. This role requiresexpertisein implementing advanced motor control algorithms, developing functionally safe software,utilizingmodel-based software design and simulation tools, and experience working with cross-functional engineering teams to define system requirements and architecture.
KEY RESULT AREAS & OUTPUTS
Design and develop functionally safe motor controlsoftwarefor electric propulsion systems.
Implement software modules and algorithms per product requirements while ensuring compliance with industry standards andcomplying withthe company’sproduct development processes
Develop efficient andhigh performancesoftware solutions that areoptimizedfor performance, accuracy, and reliability
Utilize model-based design and simulation tools to develop andvalidatesoftware solutions; develop andmaintainsystem models using tools such as MATLAB / Simulink andStateflow
Apply Agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, to plan – execute – deliver software projects efficiently
Break down complex tasks into actionable user stories and tasks to estimate effort andestablishrealistic timelines

Stay up to date with advancements in functional safety, aerospace industry standards, and software development best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, system engineers, motor design engineers, application engineers, and safety / certification experts to define system requirements and architecture
Support PCBA manufacturing partners to introduce designs into production on schedule and ensure proper functional test of the electronics; includingcreation of test specifications and collaboration on test equipment
Work with, and travel to, domestic and international design and manufacturing locations when necessary
Comprehensiveanalysis,testing,documentationandadherence tocompliance standards
Typical design tasks include writing design specifications, performing design analysis and simulations, authoring software test procedures, conducting rigorous software testing and verification activities, leading software design reviews, andparticipatingin engineering validation, design verification, and agency certification phases of projects
Create andmaintainproject documentation including design requirements, design specifications, test procedures, simulation results and support technical manual creation
Lead technical software design reviews for newly developed solutions with cross functional teams toidentifysoftware vulnerabilities and identify / implementappropriate measuresto address vulnerabilities
Ensure compliance with functional safety standards, such as ISO 26262 and DO-178C, throughout the development process; conduct and document safety analyses and risk assessments toidentifypotential hazards andappropriate safetymeasures, define safety requirements and develop safety cases, and collaborate with safety experts to conduct safety audits and reviews to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards

Experience with advanced motor control algorithms and model-based design and simulation is essential
Experience with programming languages and software development tools relevant to aerospace applications, suchas C/C++, MATLAB / Simulink, and software simulation, test, and analysis
PREFERRED:
Familiarity with functional safety standards, such as ISO 26262 and DO-178C, and their application in the aerospace industry
Experience with microcontroller / DSP based hardware for motor control applications desired
Experience designing software for aerospace
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s orMaster’sor PhDdegree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Science (or related field) with focus in motor control software algorithms and a working knowledge of power electronics hardware
7 or more years of experience in advanced motor control software design including knowledge of vector control algorithms, field-oriented control algorithms,sensorlesscontrol algorithms, and functional safety software development
