Position Summary:
Are you passionate about helping people achieve their homeownership dreams? Join our team as a Mortgage Loan Specialist, where you'll provide valuable information on our diverse portfolio of mortgage products and services to our members. You'll follow all policies and procedures, as well as Federal and State regulations, to support the loan decision process. This role involves analyzing individual financial information, recommending loan approvals or denials, and processing necessary documentation. You'll also work closely with our mortgage support staff to ensure timely and exceptional service to our members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct interviews with mortgage loan applicants and assist them in completing loan applications over the phone or electronically.
Collect, analyze, and evaluate financial information and documentation to support loan applications.
Assess borrower's character, collateral, capacity to repay, and credit position to make informed loan decisions based on individual circumstances.
Calculate debt-to-income ratios, collateral requirements, and payment plans for loan applicants.
Communicate with members, applicants, and creditors to resolve questions about application information.
Visit community and business contacts to promote our services and successfully develop lending business.
Provide detailed information on mortgage loan products that best meet the member's individual needs.
Recommend loan structures, pricing, terms, and amounts tailored to each borrower's situation.
Prepare loan documentation for underwriting and processing, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Manage the loan closing process with customers.
Consult with members on asset purchases, credit management, budgeting, debt restructuring, and financial planning.
Notify applicants of loan decisions and inform prospective borrowers of loan commitments.
Review and apply regulations related to installment loan security agreements.
Assist members in making payment arrangements on loans.
Interact with members and the public to solicit loan applications and promote mortgage loan business growth.
Collaborate with other staff to develop additional lending and deposit business opportunities and follow up on mortgage leads.
Work with other departments to ensure compliance with best practices and procedures for process, record retention, and information gathering.
Promote other financial products and services.
Provide exceptional service to our members.
Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
Proactively build relationships to meet set goals for the position.
Assist members through the loan application and approval process, providing education on loan issues as needed.
Prepare and ensure the accuracy of loan documentation for processing.
Manage risk through diligent information gathering.
Provide timely feedback to applicants about the status of their loans.
Perform loan prospecting and delinquency calls to help meet position goals.
Be available to travel to client and vendor appointments as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the mortgage loan application process and consumer credit.
Ability to collect and analyze individual borrower financial information.
Skill in evaluating information and making recommendations regarding loan pricing, structure, amounts, and terms.
Ability to recommend loan approvals, denials, and counteroffers based on individual circumstances.
Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, explain product features and benefits, and communicate persuasively.
Business development skills.
Proficiency in PC computing, including MS Office and loan application software.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to build credibility and trust.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma required. A College Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or Finance is preferred.
Experience in gathering data, analyzing financial information, and making financial product recommendations.
Previous experience in business development and networking.
Background in Mortgage/Consumer Lending, Banking, or Sales is desired.
Experience in building networks of community and industry contacts to support business goals is a plus.
Proven success in meeting external business goals in a face-to-face customer service or sales environment.
