Position Overview:
The ideal candidate of the position will have a strong background in Oil & Gas Industry, be an expert in Hydrodynamics Engineering, and providing support to Hanwha Ocean engineering teams based at Houston/Seoul/Amsterdam during the Conceptual/pre-FEED/FEED/EPC project phases in the offshore area. This will include Floating platforms/facilities including FPSO’s, FLNG, Semi’s and TLP’s.
The Hydrodynamic Engineer will be responsible for the determination of the hydrodynamic loads acting on floating systems and derive their effects. Analyze, size and specify the anchoring system components in a way that ensures the safe, timely, efficient and profitable delivery of high-quality engineering that meets the Company's requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Mooring Concept Engineer is responsible for safely executing assigned projects, monitoring project resources and timeframes, and providing technical knowledge and experience. The Engineer is highly organized, principled, and is an important voice in the success of the team. This position works closely and collaboratively with the engineering team, project managers, and staff in meeting the mission and strategic goals of the Offshore Project. This position is based in Houston, TX, participates in engineering activities initiated from Hanwha Ocean Offshore proposal team.
- Perform conceptual design of anchoring system configurations. Design mooring systems and perform frequency and time-domain mooring analyses to confirm that the designs satisfy regulatory and project specific design requirements,
- Evaluate concepts for various offshore floating type projects, weighing technical feasibility and efficiency against other factors such as installation method, costs and HSE risks
- Assess global dynamic response (including motions in waves) of floating systems including (but not limited to) and FPSO's and FLNG’s. Perform simple supporting calculations to demonstrate the adequacy of engineering solutions.
- Collect, analyze and interpret project data, including (but not limited to) oceanographic and metocean data.
- Interface with clients, vessel owners, and third parties as needed. Contribute to technical discussions on concept evaluations, methodology, design, and offshore execution. Ensure open and effective communication between other engineers, project managers, internal groups, and other project stakeholders
- Ensure the highest quality of mooring equipment, deliverables, and offshore performance. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, recommended practices, and guidelines. Provide advice, guidance, and expertise to other engineers within the team
- Track project progress, understand project milestones and deadlines, and communicate status to ensure timely fulfillment of project requirements
- Prepare metocean study specifications and follow up their execution by the selected Consultants.
- Specify hydrodynamic numerical analyses subcontracted to external Consultants and follow up their execution.
- Specify model test campaigns, follow up their execution, interpret their results and tune numerical tools against these.
- Perform advanced numerical analysis using specialized software packages in use within the Company and report the results obtained in a comprehensive manner.
- Prepare design load reports and anchor leg length calculation reports.
- Prepare heading analysis and motion analysis reports.
- Prepare technical specifications of anchoring system components (chain, steel wire ropes, synthetic wire ropes, anchor leg accessories).
- Execute availability analyses of mooring systems and offshore terminals including (but not limited to) import and export oil terminals, disconnectable anchoring systems, etc.
- Act as Discipline Lead during project execution or as Engineering Project Manager for Engineering Studies when required.
- Check, review internal drawings, specifications and calculation notes.
- Assist in the technical evaluation of bids and technical proposal submitted by contractors and suppliers of anchoring system components.
- Answer queries arising from clients, contractors or internal Company departments on Anchoring aspects of Company systems. Prepare formal responses to detailed comments from Clients and Classification Societies on drawings, specifications and calculation notes.
- Lead development of Company Technical Standards, Work Procedures / Work Instructions and prepare technical notes for the routine aspects of the work.
- Keep abreast of the latest development of specialized software packages. Attend training courses, seminars etc. when required. Represent the Company in JIP's and technical panels of normative organizations.
- Be an expert in anchoring technology including (but not limited to): metocean data analysis, global analysis of dynamic response, design, selection of materials, fabrication and testing, and keep abreast of latest development in this technology.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas or Offshore industry including a minimum of 2 years of Mooring Engineering experience will be preferred.
- Proven track record of success in developing and implementing Mooring Engineering.
- Strong understanding with offshore and/or marine industry terminology, concepts, and practices.
- Proficiency in mooring and hydrodynamic analysis and design software.
- Proven track record of success in developing and analyzing mooring systems during pre-FEED/FEED or tender stage. Prior experience with FPSO or FLNG design development and/or engineering project delivery (e.g. at a top-tier FPSO contractor) is preferred
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess technical challenges, identify solutions, and implement effective control strategies.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.

Work Authorization:
The ideal candidate for this role will have authorization to work in the US prior to joining Hanwha. This role will not sponsor or help with the sponsorship for work authorization in the United States.
