Position Overview
As the Blood Bank Section Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations within the Blood Bank department. You will lead staff, ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards, and manage workflows to deliver exceptional patient care. This role encompasses supervisory duties and technical expertise while working with patients of all ages, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the Blood Bank section to ensure smooth, compliant, and effective operations.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to team members within the laboratory.
- Implement and oversee Quality Assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize workflows and patient outcomes.
- Maintain compliance with AABB standards, Joint Commission Laboratory requirements, and all relevant regulatory guidelines.
- Oversee blood product inventory, testing, and storage while ensuring safety and traceability.
- Utilize laboratory systems and automated equipment to support operations.
- Participate in departmental planning, including staffing, evaluations, and training.
Technical Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field.
- Certification as an MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist), MT (Medical Technologist), CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist), or equivalent. ASCP certification preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Blood Bank within an acute care hospital or clinical setting.
- Familiarity with AABB standards and Joint Commission Laboratory requirements preferred.
- Experience with Quality Assurance and laboratory compliance procedures.
- Ability to utilize laboratory information systems and computerized lab equipment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience within a laboratory setting is a plus.
