Job Details
The Electrical and Automation Design Engineer designs Water/Wastewater technology, electrical power distribution, and instrumentation/control systems. These systems include process instrumentation and automation, control panels, motor control centers, power monitoring, and switchgear. Design documents encompass Electrical site/building plans, Single-line Diagrams, Lighting Plans, P&IDs, specifications, and detailed control panel schematics.
Key Responsibilities:
Report to E&A Design Director for responsibilities, scheduling, and quality control.
Design automation, controls, and SCADA systems for water/wastewater processes, including communications, PLC architecture, instrumentation, software, and hardware.
Design electrical distribution systems, including one-line diagrams, plan drawings, panel schedules, and equipment elevations.
Prepare project specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and process controls.
Create Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Develop detailed control panel wiring schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, and communication diagrams.
Prepare instrumentation and control system submittal packages.
Collaborate with the E&A Design Director to review and update design standards for compliance with codes, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
Occasionally visit client sites to investigate field conditions for design documents.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
4+ years of experience in electrical design preferred.
Advanced computer skills, literacy, and proficiency.
AutoCAD experience required; Revit and Visio experience are pluses.
Experience with SKM or other electrical study software is a plus.
Strong oral, written, and digital communication skills.
Ability to interact easily with other design staff.
Effective organizational skills for task and time management.
Strong problem-solving skills.
P.E. license preferred; EIT preferred with field experience working towards a PE.
