Senior Director, Datacenter Lifecycle Execution

As a Senior Director, Datacenter Lifecycle Execution, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. The Senior Director, Datacenter Lifecycle Execution is a critical role within the Data Center Operations team reporting to the VP, Datacenter Operations Americas. In this role, you will be our voice and partner with peer groups across multiple organizations as well as managing a team of experts to drive excellence in end to end Azure IT Mainstream Lifecycle (deployment, maintenance and decommissioning), Inventory & Asset Management Operations, and Critical Environment (CE) Operations Programs. You will interact and maintain relationships with various stakeholders across our organization. You will use your keen technical, business acumen, and financial management skills to manage our operating costs effectively, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and ecological responsibility. Interpersonal awareness, ability to navigate ambiguity, and communication skills will be pivotal in bringing your program management, technical abilities, and leadership experiences to a whole new level in supporting Microsoft’s success!

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent AND 10+ years experience in a production, mission-critical, 24x7 operations environment.
- 5+ years experience leading, directly managing, and influencing a diverse organization of full-time employees across multiple disciplines and platforms.
- 5+ years of experience managing large vendor multi-year contracts and operating entities.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling, etc.).
- Knowledge of critical environment concepts and infrastructure (e.g., Electrical Distribution, Mechanical Cooling Systems, etc.).
- Ability to lead cross functional efforts to gain alignment and deliver maximum business impact.
- Ability to build and lead highly effective teams.
- Executive presence and ability to influence technical peers and senior leaders.
- Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Awareness of IT Service Operations fundamentals and principles (ITIL, MOF, OLA/SLA, CSI, etc.).
- Project or program management experience and certification(s) (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen, PMI, etc.).
Data Center Operations Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,800 - $267,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,800 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Empower a culture of safety, security, availability and compliance in all aspects of datacenter operations.
- Model, coach, and care for the team, ensuring alignment with Microsoft culture, values, and leadership principles.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Champion and drive cultural transformation within your area of accountability, acting as a coach, mentor, or program leader.
- Foster a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and improvement.
- Contribute to global and regional improvement programs, leveraging best practices and lessons learned to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Mainstream Lifecycle Program:
- Manage deployment of racks for network, storage and compute with the ownership to deliver capacity for end customers efficiently.
- Manage and track decommission of racks to meet refresh and capacity target.
- Work in collaboration with our global and partner teams on refining the processes based on field input.
- Ensure all datacenters are operating with processes defined by global teams.
Inventory & Asset Management Program:
- Support our datacenter teams ensuring they have the proper assets required for break fix both in IT and CE.
- Own the data required for proper tracking and supplying appropriate information to our global teams.
- Hold regular meetings with our Inventory & Asset teams gathering critical information which includes following inventory asset management at their sites.
Critical Environment Operations Program:
- Ensure all CE teams are following processes identified by our Global standards team.
- Key stakeholder representing operations with critical input to improve our availability.
- Manage the processes within the datacenters to ensure each location meets the Power Utilization Effectiveness (PUE), Water Utilization Effectiveness (WUE) and Infrastructure Utilization Effectiveness (IUE) design targets driving changes required.
- Key interface into our global and partner teams regarding Americas availability.
