About the Job
In this role, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing most accounting activities, including P&L and balance sheet reviews, monthly close, internal controls, and oversee all aspects of cost accounting, for the newly acquired business – Yale and August branded smart home products. It is an exciting business with tremendous growth potential. This position plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of the business’s financial statements. The Accounting Manager will be an enabler to implement large process improvement projects, such as the new ERP system implementation. The accounting manager will lead one staff accountant and the external business process provider.
Position location: Hybrid in Oak Creek, WI or Deerfield, IL
What you will be doing
- Manage the monthly close process including, ensuring adherence to month-end close timelines, review of journal entries and account reconciliations and P&L and balance sheet reviews.
- Partner with the internal controls department to ensure effective internal controls.
- Manage the external audit process.
- Ensure that an adequate system of internal controls is in place at Yale Residential.
- Educate all sites on requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404.
- Work with sites to implement required controls, monitor ongoing compliance, and maintain documentation.
- Ensure that financial statements are prepared and reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ensure that all transactions, assets, and liabilities are properly stated through review of account reconciliations and understanding of business transaction flows.
- Oversee inventory accuracy, excess and obsolete inventory, valuation, and lower of cost or market requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate inventory valuation, including proper treatment of inventory variances.
- Stay current on accounting statements and pronouncements and provide interpretation on their applicability to the company.
- Lead a team of accounting professionals in handling the above responsibilities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Requires 5+ years of total finance/accounting experience, including both public accounting (audit) and manufacturing industry. 7+ years of experience preferred
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley Controls
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA, or MBA is a plus
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Products (EPM), J.D. Edwards (JDE), or new ERP system implementation is a plus
- Organizational Savvy. Maneuver comfortably through complex policy, process and people related organizational dynamics
- People management experience
