Position Function:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs duties necessary to support the Maintenance Division in inspecting, testing, installing, maintaining, and repairing water meters and related radio transmission systems.
Essential Duties:
- Performs duties necessary to support the Maintenance Division in inspecting, testing, installing, maintaining, and repairing water meters and related radio transmission systems. Duties include but are not limited to, obtaining access to the meter by digging and excavating the work site, cutting away roots, removing debris and trash, pumping excess water, and replacing and/or repairing broken water pipes. Responsible for water line and meter box location markers (e.g. spray paint, metal tabs, etc.) and may assist with service connect and disconnect lists, and meter readings.
- Performs duties to implement preventative and routine maintenance. Duties include but are not limited to, programming radio transmission systems, changing out tamper and no response meters that do not work properly with radio transmission system, coordinating credits/warranty with vendor (if applicable), and investigating abnormal wear, leaks, and/or meter tampering. Responsible for maintaining maintenance inventory records, and inventory control.
- Performs facility and grounds maintenance duties. Duties include but are not limited to, painting, mowing, weed eating, trimming trees, landscaping, edging, and building maintenance and set-up.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Environment:
Duties are performed primarily within an outdoor environment or setting. Exposure to electrical and chemical hazards; odor; sewage; vibration; loud noise; blood-borne pathogens; inclement weather; and dust, allergens, and mold.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Required knowledge and experience are normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School Diploma or GED, and one (1) to three (3) years work work-related experience as a Mechanic, Pump and Motor Mechanic, or related field is required.
- Water Distribution Operator License.
- Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Must be able to communicate and present oneself professionally.
- Must be able to understand and comprehend technical instructions and manuals.
- Ability to read, interpret and understand schematics, and mechanical drawings or manuals.
- Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions and/or directions.
- Ability to read, write, and keep logbooks, inventory records, logbooks, purchase orders, and work requests.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees' officials, and the general public.
- Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to be on-call and call-out.
- Knowledge of mechanics.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical safety and workplace safety practices and procedures, including but not limited to, lockout/tagout.
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license.
- Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
