About the Job
NOTE- Position may be located in the Dunbar, PA Operations Center or in Akron OH or elsewhere in the company service territory, subject to the hiring managers approval.
The Meter Engineer is a technical subject-matter expert responsible for transmission revenue meters, PJM Generation projects and Company Tie Lines.
The Meter Engineer works directly in the Meter Engineering Group reporting to the Manager/Supervisor.
Responsibilities
The Smart Meter Engineer is responsible for:
- Must be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
- Multiple PJM projects will be going on concurrenly.
- Understanding the Client life cycle processes of meters which includes:
- Meter forecasting.
- Understanding how meters are purchased.
- Understand Components of a metering system:
- Which meter forms are used on services
- Meter Vector associated with each service
- Meter design
- Transmission Interconnections with peer utilities
- Intra-company connections
- PJM Generation Projects
- State Line Crossings
- Current Transformer sizing
- Equipment and wiring practices
- Estimates for Transmission Capital Projects
- being familiar with what equipment is required for a project
- use estimating tools to estimate equipment and labor Costs
- Calculation of transformer loss and line loss meter settings
- Obtaining and storing transformer test sheets
- obtaining and storing transmission line parameters
- develop meter settings to properly calculate losses
- confirm meter output is within expected ranges after being programmed
- Working with other groups within Client to do the following:
- Reporting and making presentations to Managers and Directors.
- Developing or assisting the development of test scenarios for smart meters that could be executed by the Meter Engineering/Test Lab teams.
- Representing the Meter Engineering/Test Lab function on project teams.
- Participating and lending expertise to FE team projects that impact metering or meter records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school is required. Position level requires a minimum of 1-3 years previous related engineering experience.
- Candidate must possess exceptional analytical and problem solving ability, supplemented by strong customer service and leadership skills, excellent verbal and written skills.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making and leadership skills and excel communication and presentation skills.
- Good computer skills with some proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, database query tools.
