About the Job
We are looking to hire an experienced Metallurgist and Melt Manager (People Manager) for our busy 24/7 amorphous metal manufacturing plant, located in Conway, SC.
Responsibilities:
- Safety: Lead by example in maintaining a safe and organized workplace, conduct daily safety talks, and ensure environmental compliance.
- Personnel Management: Directly manage a team of 12 hourly melters and 2 melting supervisors, including scheduling, training, and performance reviews.
- Equipment Maintenance: Oversee melt furnace refractory repairs and relines, and act as a liaison for melt and raw material repairs and projects.
- Process Optimization: Define work processes for charge coordination, raw materials inventory, chemistry control, and continuous improvement.
- Quality Control: Participate in the quality process, resolve corrective actions, and coordinate with R&D for new alloy development.
- Documentation: Write, review, and update procedures/work instructions and forms in ISO 9001 QC system and Melt Intranet.
- Product Qualification: Develop X-trials when qualifying new products and/or suppliers, including sampling, testing, and reporting on X-trial results.
Key Success Factors:
- Effectively communicate performance expectations and safety protocols to all personnel.
- Drive initiatives to maintain and update internal webpages related to melt operations.
- Provide timely feedback and seek opportunities for process improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments to achieve production and quality objectives.
Attributes/Skills Required:
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and on the plant floor for at least 70% of the time.
- Experience in managing a team and conducting performance reviews.
- Background in Metallurgy with at least 5 years of experience in manufacturing.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
- Proven leadership experience and organizational skills.
- Previous roles specifically as a Metallurgist, with experience working closely with R&D, Quality, and Procurement departments.
