The Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine offers four dynamic MBA programs – plus PhD, specialty masters and undergraduate business degrees – that prepare business leaders for our digitally driven world. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Computing Support, the Technology Support Specialist will work as part of a small and flexible team supporting computing and A/V systems for faculty, staff and students affiliated with the Paul Merage School of Business during day, evening and weekend shifts. While staffing the Merage Technology Support Center (herein, “Merage Tech”), the Technology Support Specialist will provide in-person, e-mail, and telephone technical support to supported users. The Technology Support Specialist will also assist Merage faculty, staff and students using desktop and portable computing devices at on-site and off-site locations; assist faculty and students in Merage “smart classrooms” providing assistance and troubleshooting errors with the computing and audio/visual equipment; and support hardware and software for desktop and laptop computers running the latest releases of Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating systems, the MS Office productivity suite, and campus-specific software titles.
This is a part-time, short-term Limited position that is fully onsite.
Work Schedule
Monday-Thursday, 8AM-1PM and Friday, 8AM-12PM

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $28.58- $29.17 (Hourly).
Required:
- Outstanding communication skills (written and oral), specifically the ability to explain concepts clearly, especially to non-technical people; to write well, and produce clear documentation.
- Ability to work independently or in a team, while managing a large queue of support requests.
- Able to independently master new software quickly. Ability to research technical information via the internet.
- Experience with portable and desktop PC and Apple hardware and peripherals, including those used for teleconferencing like webcams, microphones, digital whiteboards, etc. Able to troubleshoot, test, assemble such. Able to troubleshoot, test, assemble such.
- Familiar with various teleconferencing software titles like Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Internet security tools (VPN, SSH, malware and virus detection and removal)
- Experience with advanced installation of current and previous Mac OS and Windows releases, up through OS X 15 Sequoia and Windows 11. Experience supporting Windows server and/or workstations on a Microsoft Active Directory domain.
- Experience with Internet/Intranet software for Windows and OS X; Chrome, Firefox, IE/EDGE, Web-based and client-based email, cloud storage, file sharing and internet newsgroups. Experience using network-based client applications, relating to group collaboration and communication.
- Understanding of the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) and general networking concepts.
- Experience supporting a variety of hand-held devices.
- Experience assisting offsite users with computer support issues using remote support programs like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Any skills and knowledge not explicitly referenced above necessary to perform all major tasks and duties associated with instructional technical support in and computer and course room environment.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- A minimum of 1 year of experience
Preferred:
- Experience with Streaming Multimedia. Experience creating, editing and viewing online multimedia. Experience troubleshooting connection and client/server communication problems with online audio and video.
- Business background or working knowledge, background, or coursework in accounting, finance, economics, strategy, management information systems, decision sciences, marketing, organizational behavior. Experience with part-time business academic program of study and curriculum. Experience in database development, particularly where applicable to personnel/inventory tracking.
- Programming experience. Understanding of scripting languages such as VBScript, PowerShell or AppleScript. Experience with object-oriented programming languages, such as Java or C#.NET.
