About the Job
As a MEP Technician II, the employee is responsible for providing technical assistance to TierPoint and its customers in the Data Center. The employee is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and service on the electrical - mechanical systems supporting the Data Center. The employee will educate and train other TierPoint personnel on tasks related to the mechanical-electrical systems and components. The employee will be primarily responsible for facility electrical / mechanical systems, documentation and ongoing service and support. This position is critical, as failure of these systems to function properly would result in millions of dollars in lost revenue and damaged equipment as well as significant legal liability for TierPoint.
Responsibilities:Electrical
- Adopt and use defined systems, tools, procedures, processes, and standards
- Proactively manage ticket queue for timely request and response completion
- Manage and complete assigned projects and report progress
- Update documentation in a timely and accurate manner
- Installation and termination of network and communication wiring
- Support and validate power infrastructure and deployment
- Provide remote hands and eyes support for internal or external client issues
- Ensure all aspects of the physical infrastructure are kept clean and orderly
- Perform routine physical inspections for alarm identification and operational issues
- Understand and follow escalation procedures
- Follow all safety guidelines and best practices
- Support office operations
- Operate, troubleshoot, repair and assist in performance of preventative maintenance of TierPoint’s electrical systems and components. These can include, but are not limited to: low and medium voltage switch gear, static transfer switches, power distribution units, remote power panels, branch circuits, large or medium voltage diesel generator systems, large UPS systems, building fire alarm / life safety, fire suppression systems and critical infrastructure monitoring systems.
- The position is responsible for responding to 7/24-hour electrical and mechanical operational issues, which requires off-hour coverage via mobile phone.
- In emergency situations, dispatch technicians and or vendors, as needed, in the absence of Management.
- Analyze and educate other TierPoint personnel on evaluating alarm and event trending.
- Extensive knowledge in all aspects of Data Center electrical operations.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced site personnel.
- Installation and administration of door access and camera surveillance systems
- Monitor, identify, and escalate only the most complex problems according to documented TierPoint procedures.
- Monitors ticket flows and receives escalations when Management is not available.
- Coordinates all permitting, and inspections required by local authorities in the absence of Management.
- Determine priority of action based on severity of service disruptions and respond appropriately.
- Responsible for the logging and tracking of problems in order to report, track and resolve complex issues.
- Provide exceptional customer support, for moderately complex to complex problem diagnosis and scheduled processing in order to meet service level agreements.
- Conduct scheduled site surveys (inspection tours) of the Data Center
- Record and maintain power metrics and other related details on a regular basis.
- Installation of new equipment and removal of systems as required
- Install and repair connectivity demarcation units for electrical and telecommunications circuitry.
- Install and repair conduit systems and other current carrying equipment.
- Provides coverage for other shift operations as required.
- Responsible in providing technical assistance to other TierPoint resources outside of Data Center Operations.
- Performing physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping, where the activities often also require considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials.
- In coordination with Tier 1 and/or other TierPoint personnel, provide technical assistance to various customers for second-level problem/fault isolation.
- Assist in the physical installation of computer equipment and components, cable tray, conduit and telecommunications cabling.
- Other responsibilities as required.
HVAC/Plumbing

- Support office operations
- Operate, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance of TierPoint’s mechanical systems and components. These can include but are not limited to: CRAC/CRAH units, condensing coils, rooftop units, chillers, cooling towers, and associated components for HVAC and plumbing systems.
- The position is responsible for responding to 7/24-hour electrical and mechanical operational issues, which requires off-hour coverage via mobile phone.
- In emergency situations, dispatch technicians and or vendors, as needed, in the absence of Management.

- Associate degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Engineering / Mechanical Technology, Construction Management, a related field or equivalent experience.
- Must possess a current Journeyman or Master Electrician’s license or Universal CFC Refrigeration License in good standing with the local authorities.
- Good working relationship with the local Electrical and Mechanical Inspector(s).
- Familiarity with ASHRAE, NEC and NFPA.
- Adequate professional experience and knowledge to perform job responsibilities
- Proficiency in Service Now computer application
- Ability to differentiate between colors
- Ability to use small hand tools
- Must be able to lift objects over one’s head
- Ability to use a ladder to work in elevated areas
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years of technical training or equivalent progressively responsible related experience in a web hosting or other mission critical building engineering operations. Or (3) years as a Journeyman Electrician or HVAC Technician with satisfactory or better performance plus (3) years industry experience. Technical training may be trade school or manufacturers training on UPS systems, medium voltage switchgear, low voltage power distribution units, building automation systems, 1.0 megawatt and larger engine-generator sets and/or large diesel engines, and other training directly related to the operation and maintenance of electrical / mechanical plant in a high reliability environment.

It’s important to note the pay range may be narrower than displayed, as various factors are used to determine the offered compensation package including skill set, level of experience, geographic locations, and other relevant factors- i.e. budgetary requirements.
Pay Range $25.14 - $37.71
