About the Job
The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing intensive supervision and direction to emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and adolescents in a compassionate and respectful manner. This includes requiring and unwavering commitment to the safety of kids and being aware of all ongoing developments and concerns, on a daily basis, of all children in their care. This responsibility also includes demonstrating the ability to distinguish between discipline and punishment as well as seeing past a child’s surface behavior to recognize the children in need of help. Additionally, there is an innate desire to build trusting and supportive relationships with all of our children and recognize this as a prerequisite for implementing individualized treatment and unit programming. The community mental health worker position is a 12-month (229 day) position with set leave time.
Job Duties/ Essential Functions
- Ensure a safe and secure environment. Act immediately to remove all dangers or threats to the welfare of our kid and know the whereabouts of all children in your care.
- Supervise daily routines and responsibilities of children and ensure performance of daily self-care tasks assisting when necessary. Provide minor first aid treatment where necessary.
- Provide individual counseling as well as facilitate therapeutic groups.
- Fully perform restraints as necessary when ordered by a licensed professional using the current approved KidsPeace restraint methodology on youth who may weigh in excess of 250 pounds and who are verbally or physically threatening or otherwise presenting a threat to themselves or others.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of individualized treatment plans as well as daily treatment schedules in accordance with partial programming.
- Communicate all relevant client information obtained by daily supervision to appropriate treatment team members on a timely basis.
- When applicable, assist with educational responsibilities and activities by working with the teacher.
Qualifications (Education, Training, and Experiences)
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health or related field preferred.
- Experience with acute emotionally challenged children or adolescents preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license and First Aid/CPR certifications required.
