Memory Care Director
This role requires a blend of healthcare knowledge managerial skills and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with cognitive impairments and their families.
The Memory Care Director oversees the specialized memory care unit within the nursing home, ensuring the highest standards of care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other memory impairments. This position involves managing staff, developing person-centered care plans, and creating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment.
Collaborate with the nursing home administrator and other department heads to align memory care services with overall facility goals.
Qualifications:
*Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, social work, nursing, occupational therapy, or a healthcare related field (or equivalent experience).
*Minimum of 2 years of experience in memory care, dementia care, in a long-term care facility.
*Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
*Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care.
* Certification in dementia care or memory care management is advantageous
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Care Management:
- Plans and coordinates therapeutic program schedule, in conjunction with Rehab and Activity teams, to meet the spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of the resident.
- Assess resident characteristics and collaborate with interdisciplinary team to plan and organize program content.
- Participate in the development of preliminary and comprehensive plan of care and attend care plan meetings.
- Partake in daily management meetings providing updates on resident care as it relates to physical and psychological change of condition, program plans and needs of the department.
-Ensures potential safety/health hazards are eliminated or controlled through regular reviews of work activities, materials and facilities.
-Conduct monthly support meetings for families of dementia care.
Staff Leadership and Development:
-Asses the educational need of staff regarding program and dementia specific knowledge to ensure appropriate education is provided.
-Attend and conduct staff training on dementia care techniques, including behavior management and person-centered care.
