Responsibilities
**Position Summary:**
The MT Education Coordinator - Chemistry/Medical Technologist Specialist generally works independently and is responsible for coordinating the MT student program(s) assuring that the curriculum is adequately covered during student labs, clinical rotations and lectures. S/he coordinates, reviews, updates and/or creates training information as well as education materials.
**Key Responsibilities:**
With direction from the Education Manager, creates and implements education processes within departmental areas to increase and sustain the pipeline of licensure qualified staff through didactic curriculum development, identification of clinical objectives and experiences, and scheduling of clinical experiences that align with learning objectives.
+ Creates & maintains didactic curricula for their areas of expertise that align with national accreditation and NYS Education requirements for Medical Technology Programs with oversite from Department Faculty.
+ Primary instructor/coordinator for student CMT 401, Essentials of Clinical Lab.
+ Assists in preparing and delivering student teaching materials both on and off clinical benches.
+ Prepares, administer and grade/review examinations and/or assessments that align with lecture materials.
+ Works with the Department of Pathology Education to schedule the didactic lectures. Ensure that lecture materials are at the appropriate level. Writes and delivers lectures when needed.
+ Creates, implement and schedule practicum experiences that meet program objectives.
+ Oversees student experiences in their clinical areas of expertise. Along with section supervisors, includes selection and development of medical technologist instructors for clinical rotations and scheduling MT students in Chemistry introductory labs and clinical rotations.
+ Attends relevant meetings as requested. Engage in continuing education, role specific training, and competency assessments to augment professional development and success in this position.
+ Under supervision of the section supervisor, schedules hematology and chemistry rotations for visiting students from academic affiliates as scheduling permits. Works with other lab sections to coordinate chemistry assignments that are performed in other departments or labs.
Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist II in the laboratory including participation in weekend and holiday coverage.
Demonstrates knowledge of theory and technical applications of Clinical Chemistry – staying abreast of new developments. Uses good judgement to seek guidance when necessary.

**Relationships/Authorities:**
The Educational Coordinator reports to the Clinical Laboratory Supervisors; generally works independently, seeking guidance from the Education Manager, Laboratory Supervisors and/or Faculty Directors. When performing Med Tech II duties, reports to the appropriate section supervisor.
**Education/Experience:**
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science with at least 1 year of relevant clinical laboratory experience preferred. ASCP certification as MLS required. Teaching or instructional experience preferred.
**Licensure:**
Requires NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or eligibility for licensure.
