Overview:
Elitecare Medical Staffing is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Technologist for our Laboratory department in Rugby, ND. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tests with precision and accuracy, requiring flexibility for on-call and weekend shifts.
Qualifications:
Education:& Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related sciences.
Certification:& Must be certified as a Medical Technologist by the Board of Registry of ASCP, the National Certification Agency (NCA), or American Medical Technology (AMT).
Licensure:& Must hold or be eligible for North Dakota State Level I License. Maintaining a current ND licensure requires 24 CEUs every 2 years.
Additional Requirements:& On-call and weekend availability is mandatory. The role may involve drawing blood.
Job Responsibilities:
Testing and Analysis:
Perform authorized tests as directed by the laboratory director, matching the individual's education, training, and technical abilities.
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient test records.
Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested similarly to patient specimens and achieve acceptable results.
Quality Control:
Adhere to quality control policies and document all related activities, including instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or notify the appropriate supervisor.
Equipment Operation:
Operate laboratory equipment including lab computers, automated chemical analyzers, blood cell counters, hematology machines, coagulation machines, centrifuges, Bactec, Microscan, microscopes, and refractometers.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; calibrate equipment and prepare laboratory reagents.
Specimen Collection:
Collect laboratory specimens through direct patient contact and advise healthcare personnel on proper collection procedures.
Perform phlebotomies, capillary punctures, and venipunctures.
Development and Consultation:
Participate in the development of new laboratory procedures.
Assist supervisors in consulting with other medical personnel on technical aspects of clinical laboratory tests.
Integrate test results to make judgments regarding discrepancies and confirm abnormal results.
Rotation Duties:
Rotate on weekend, holiday, and on-call duty; responsible for lab work received during these periods.
Supervision (Post-Evaluation):
After 6 months of orientation and 2 years of non-waived testing experience:
Provide supervision and consultation to testing personnel performing non-waived tests.
Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
Additional Responsibilities:
Promote a culture of safety to improve employee safety within the facility and department.
Safeguard the privacy and security of protected health information (PHI) in all forms.
Exhibit professional attitude, leadership role, and team member abilities. Maintain a positive professional role throughout the facility and community.
Perform other assignments as required.
Typical Working Conditions:
Work primarily within the lab department but may require drawing blood in ICU, Acute Unit, LTC, ER, Surgery, Haaland Estates, and Clinics.
Patient age range varies from neonatal to geriatrics.
Department operates 12 hours per weekday and 8 hours per weekend day with on-call duties after regular hours.
