A Medical Technologist, also known as a Laboratory Technologist, plays a crucial role in diagnosing and treating diseases by analyzing biological samples. Here are the key responsibilities and qualifications for this position:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use established lab protocols to perform laboratory tests and accurately log the results.
- Determine specimen validity within the first 20 minutes of receiving the sample.
- Inform clients of recollection protocols if a specimen is rejected.
- Identify, diagnose, and repair issues with laboratory equipment.
- Verify test results and ensure they match the correct specimen.
- Label and organize tests appropriately for easy retrieval.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences (or a related field).
- Open to new graduates who have completed clinical training in a hospital.
- Medical Technologists (MT) registry is required to start.
- ASCP certification or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.
