About the Job
A non-profit in Nassau County is looking for a Medical Support Specialist to support their collaborative Nursing team. Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Medical Support Specialist plays an integral role in facilitating high-quality care and seamless operations for residents with diverse behavioral and medical needs. Collaborating closely with the nursing and residential teams, this position supports administrative and clinical processes to ensure the effective coordination of resident care and unit activities.
Hours: 8am-4pm
Days: Monday-Friday
Location: Sea Cliff, NY
Key Responsibilities:
- Administrative and Clinical Support
- Greet and onboard new residents upon arrival at the infirmary.
- Manage clerical duties, including maintaining medical records, preparing reports, processing documentation, handling communications, and updating specific sections of the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Coordinate tasks related to billing and facilitate referrals through the EMR.
- Communicate with insurance providers to support residents' healthcare needs.
- Assist with prescription requests and oversee nursing schedules.
- Organize transportation arrangements, including those required under 29i medical transportation provisions.
- Resident Intake and Coordination
- Facilitate resident admissions and intake processes, ensuring all necessary documentation is uploaded to the EMR.
- Support family and provider interactions, including securing consents and arranging introductory meetings.
- Capture and upload resident photos to their EMR profiles as part of the intake procedure.
- Collaborate on archiving projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for paper and electronic records storage.
- Oversee nursing team schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and filling gaps when needed.
- Plan and schedule medical appointments and coordinate transportation logistics.
- Support provider requests for prescriptions, durable medical equipment, and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with families, residents, and care teams to ensure seamless delivery of care.
- Generate reports as needed for resident care and operational requirements.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, educators, and behavioral teams to deliver optimal support for residents.
- Engage in process improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
Qualifications:
- Progress toward an associate or bachelor's degree is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple workflows efficiently.
- Proficiency in digital tools, including the Microsoft Office suite and EMR systems.
- Understanding of the needs of vulnerable populations, including individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, and complex medical needs.
