Job Responsibilities
- Scan all patient documents into the patient’s Electronic Health Record (HER) and manage all release-of-information requests.
- Answer phones and take messages or transfer calls as needed.
- Assist with patient registration, with scheduling patient appointments and assisting the Purchased and Referred Care technicians with sending and getting medical documentation from providers.
- Able to take and record blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight.
- Able to annotate patient chart with vital signs, pertinent history and level of pain. Alerts provider of any acute issues mentioned by the patient.
- Able to obtain routine specimen for laboratory analysis and perform standard tests. Ensures proper identification of specimens and deliver to the laboratory while making sure proper PPE protocol is met.
- Demonstrate ability to apply/remove bandages, binders, simple dressings and hot and cold packs
- Able to perform electro cardiographs and notify Physician of results
- Able to assist patients with proper use of oxygen equipment, ensuring proper fit for mask and canula.
- Able to accompany patients in wheelchairs, on litter or ambulatory within hospital as required.
- Assist the Supervisory Health Systems Specialist as needed, related back to the duties listed above.
The Medical Support Assistant's day-to-day supervision will be provided by the Catawba Service Unit Supervisory Health Systems Specialist. Administrative contractual oversight will be provided by Catawba Service Unit Chief Executive Officer.
This position would work five 8-hour days a week (with a 30-minute lunch break): Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, excluding Federal Holidays.
• In performing services under this contract, the Medical Support Assistant shall operate as, and have the status, contractors and shall not act as an agent, or be an agent of the Catawba Service Unit. In accordance with such status as contractor, hygienist and medical support staff covenants and agrees that it will not hold herself or himself out as, nor claim to be an officer or employee of the Catawba Service Unit, or of any department, agency or unit thereof by reason hereof, and that he or she will not, by reason hereof, make any claim, demand or application to or for any right or privilege to an officer or employee of the Catawba Service Unit including, but not limited to Worker’s Compensation coverage, health coverage, unemployment insurance benefits, Social Security coverage or employee retirement membership or credit.
