Job Summary:
As a Medical Support Assistant (MSA), you will play a vital role in our healthcare team by efficiently scheduling appointments, ensuring accurate interpretation and verification of provider orders, and maintaining essential health and administrative records. Your responsibilities will include handling patient appointments and consults, updating demographic and insurance information, and ensuring compliance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. Additionally, you'll engage with various computer applications and operating systems to streamline administrative processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consults with adherence to VHA national scheduling guidelines.
Maintain accurate records by entering no-show information and monitoring electronic waitlists.
Prepare for clinic visits and ensure completion of encounter forms for appropriate workload credit.
Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information.
Provide exceptional customer service, including de-escalating situations when necessary.
Utilize medical terminology proficiently for administrative notes in medical charts.
Manage workload reports and data collection using tools like MS Excel.
Coordinate administrative functions related to patient transfers and appointment types.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship required.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Completion of probationary period and background/security investigation.
Proficiency in operating computerized programs for data entry and retrieval.
Basic understanding of medical terminology.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Education and Experience:
Six months of relevant experience OR one year above high school OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
Additional grade-specific qualifications as per VA guidelines.
