Job Summary:
The Medical Records Coordinator I oversee the maintenance of participant records within the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The Medical Records Coordinator I is responsible for processing records requests, treatment summaries, consult notes, orders and all other medical information pertaining to a participants’ medical record. The Medical Records Coordinator I is also responsible for other clerical duties including answering phones and responding to emails.
This position falls under the general direction of the Medical Records Supervisor while providing day to day support to the Medical Records Department and Interdisciplinary Team.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: One year of experience in Medical Records or another clerical setting in the long-term care environment..
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Physical Requirements – Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye- hand coordination, the ability to use department equipment and the ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. using appropriate body mechanics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records by following procedures
- Ensure participant information is scanned, name and attached accurately and timely into the EHR.
- Handle Medical Records Release Request
- Handle medical records requests from Enrollment Department for new clients.
- Obtain and update Medical Records release authorizations for participants.
- Release protected health information according to HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about participants, clients or families. Protects the confidentiality of all participant information.
- Back up for Medical Records Coordinator II and III to cover vacation/time off.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
