POSITION FUNCTION/OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for the health and medical well-being of clients.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
> Must be current as a Certified Medical Assistant
> Record medical chronological notes on all children.
> Responsible for all medication needs (i.e. on admission, check dates on meds), schedules, dispensing, unit dosing, records, log inventory, refills and school meds Consult with MD as needed. Dispose of unused meds charted with two signatures.
> Make medical appointments and transport children to medical appointments. Inform
MD of history and child's needs.
> Makes sure all prescriptions are current, filled and kept in the locked Medical office.
> Conduct medical assessments upon admission and upon any injury. Child is given first aid on-site or arrangements are made for child to be seen by MD or ER Dept. as appropriate.
> Read daily log and chart appropriate info to keep staff up-to-date. Communicate
directly with childcare workers, shift supervisor and dependency case managers as
appropriate.
> Asses baby flow charts and sick child charts. Make appropriate recommendations.
> Follow-up on medicals on all new admissions, shot records, 72 hour physicals.
> Follow up on all child injury reports. Document as appropriate.
> Medical supplies are kept cleaned, organized and stocked. Verify all supplies are not
outdated.
> Update Resource Books for children with copies of all pertinent medical information
> Compile necessary health records for registration of all school age children. Consult
with school nurse as needed. Contact school for early release due to medical appointments.
> Train supervisors in med administration
> Participate in in-service, staff meetings, treatment team meetings and trainings as directed.
> Keep all certifications and MA requirements up-to-date.
> With physician's referral, arrange for outpatient OT, PT, speech, hearing and
ophthalmology assessments.
> Work with the therapist by sharing appropriate information
> Coordinate care with psychiatrist including assisting in informed consent
> Work with parents/guardians when available to obtain medical/family history, inform of current treatment and educate as appropriate.
> On call responsibilities
> Schedule and transport clients (less than 5) to WIC
> Document weight/height monthly
> Supervise Medical Office Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
> Medical Assistant Diploma required
> Meets all staff requirements specified in Florida Administrative Code Chapter
65C-14 and all contractual obligations
> Certification in CPR, First Aid, CPR
> Meets requirements to operate agency vehicles
SKILLS:
> Communication skills- verbal and written
> Organizational skills, including detail oriented record keeping
> Ability to be flexible
