Medical Interpreter - Signature Healthcare

Position Summary:

Provides face-to-face and telephonic interpreting as needed for health care encounters throughout Signature Healthcare. Acts as a cultural broker, informing providers and patients of relevant cultural issues to assist providers in delivering culturally competent patient care. Acts as a patient advocate, assisting limited English proficiency (LEP) patients to access the full range of services available at Signature Healthcare. Offers linguistic knowledge for translation and proofreading of translations as requested.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

• Two years of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter preferred.
• Must pass the Signature Healthcare Interpreter Services department's interpreter testing process, both in its written and oral format. Satisfactory fluency in English and Cape Verdean Creole/Portuguese at a level that ensures accurate and understandable interpretation.
• Strong cultural awareness competencies and familiarity with diversity of cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Formal medical interpreting training required, either as a 60 hours minimum medical interpreting course, or associate's degree in interpretation with Certificate of Completion.
• The Certificate of Completion must be submitted with your application or resume.
• Satisfactory knowledge of medical terminology.
